The club needs to be commended on how they handled this situation. Not rolling over to Collingwood's typical take it or leave it stance was correct, as it would have given a potential top4 club an advantage for no real recompense.
So the Saints end up with nothing in exchange. What has been lost? A player who we all knew had great potential. A player who has been limited in his ability through a cruel injury. A player who lost his passion for his club (and by extension his team mates). A player who played about 50% of game time. Luke the person may be missed but the current player can definitely be replaced.
The saddest part for Luke is that he will more than likely end up playing with Melbourne. They can easily match any deal Collingwood puts on the table.
Ball to nominate for draft today according to The Age

I don't want him to go to Collingwood...
I think he is going there because he believe that he can contribute to a side that can challenge for a flag. It's not so much that I am convinced he can improve their side enough to do so, but I don't like that he wants to try
Would like to hear him thank the club, the fans, for their support....he is afterall, good at saying the right things even when he doesn't mean them

Yep, we knew there was a chance he would still go to collingwood for nothing and in hindsight we would be better off with the below par trade the pies were offering....
....Hindsight is a wonderful thing - For the record, I still would not have taken that trade and am in agreement with the club.
Good luck to the next bloke that wants to leave.

Joffa Burns has got it spot on when he says,
".......classic case of Luke confusing his ability with his performance.
Couldn’t kick over a jam tin and couldn’t run out of sight on a dark night. Plenty of ticker and hard work but there is more required in today’s game.
Over paid and underperformed for the last two years and now he runs and chases the money when the remuneration will finally be commensurate with performance."
Exactly right. He can piss off.
So we know it is money do we. If it is money he would just go to Melbourne as they have plenty on their salary cap. I just get pissed off how Bally suddenly is the worst player of all time. This season i said he is an average overpaid footballer which he was and got howled down by the same people who today rate him a worse footballer than david Windbanks.st.byron wrote:Not intended to be sensible. He is not wanting to go to Melbourne, as it's probably about money coupled together with a chance at a premiership...how does this make his decision any better as far as the club is concerned?plugger66 wrote:So we know it is money do we. As the coach said in not so many words after the grand final "if you are not willing to get on board then good ridence".
Ball obviously was not willing to get on board with the TEAM requirements and what the needed to do for the TEAM to be better. No worries good luck going forward, hopefully next September sitting in the stand he will realise what a mistake he has made missing out on a premiership medal.
Enjoy Melbourne being a big fish in a small pond. By nominating for the Pre seasondraft sounds like a deal has been done already as would otherwise nominate for the National draft. Even if he does end up at Collingwood glad no trade was done as would rather lose him for nothing than clog up the salary cap with a player who is not good enough.

It called a little bit of licence with words but dont kid yourself most have changed their minds about his form from 8 weeks ago. Who cares why he left? The fact is that he would rather play somewhere else. So if people are upset and calling him names they are entitled to. He decoded to go he was not pushed this was his choice. So call him money hungry, a traitor, dumb or whatever if you like. He has chosen to walk away from the club, his team mates and supporters who stuck by him. So if you want to stick by him still good on you, but please don't have a go at others who are extremely dissapointed with the decision HE made.

Correct, but was X told that he was a vital member of the team and in our best 22?plugger66 wrote:Didnt X decide to leave as well?IluvHarvey wrote:Who cares why he left? P66 brings up a perfect example in X, of how to leave the club in a professional manner. No press about how relationships with the club are "untenable" or the like, the desire to put together a farewell message for his fans, and leaving on good terms with the club.IluvHarvey wrote:Correct, but was X told that he was a vital member of the team and in our best 22?plugger66 wrote:Didnt X decide to leave as well?IluvHarvey wrote:Who cares why he left? "The fact is" that footy is Luke Ball's job and career. While we the fans can - and will - be emotive over the subject, the literal fact of the matter is that he owes us exactly zero. Such criteria doesn't align, so when throwing around phrases like "the fact is" we should recall that while the downside of our adulation is our hatred, "the fact is" both are things we ourselves contribute. They're not a basis for a decision such as the one Ball made, and our emotional attachment is our responsibility, not his.IluvHarvey wrote:Who cares why he left? Those choosing to indulge their invective do so for themselves, not really for anything to do with Luke Ball.
That said, Bally's decline from being a favorite of mine to just another footy player is now complete. While I'm not likely to boo myself, I imagine he'll have to put up with quite a racket any time he touches the ball against the Saints. Does a small part of me look forward to his first clanger against us? Yes it does...

Anyway good luck Luke - just not against us
Oh and a bigger paycheque than what st Kilda is apparently capable/prepared to offer.

Oh well piss off then Luke, I am more concrened with St.Kilda players than some GOP who plays with some opposition team.
Shows true character. Only player i can think off that has trashed the Saints in public worse than Ball is Spida Everitt.
