Seems like the coaching staff don't think he can make it back to today's game, with the emphasis on running and pace. Sadly cut down by that broken leg.
Good luck Goose, hope you get another crack at it.

Good Luck Goose.
I hope he's made the necessary contacts through his time in football so as to set himself up in teh next phase of his life.
He's been a great Clubman, who showed plenty of ability before he was so unluckily cruelled by injuries.
I'd actually prefer him not to play anywhere else and always be remebered as a Saint.
Clubs often have to make tough decisions about the playing future of players. This appears to be one of those.

That would show great mateship - Matt buzz off so I can be greedy and have more money. They had/have the same agent.axcellence wrote:The only positive thing is... nothing's been noted on Ball yet... and perhaps goose has been let go to give ball enough money.
I fear that the delisting of Maguire for whatever reason only increases the chances of Ball rolling somewhere else.
They were both great mates.
Just one less reason to stay at the club.
Ball is still talking to other clubs so he hasn't made up his mind yet.
He has until November 10 to nominate for the National Draft.
If he has not signed before 13 November, St Kilda will probably delist him at List Lodgement No2.
The latter action would leave him to nominate for the pre-season draft but allow St Kilda an extra pick in the national draft.
I hope he decides to stay but at this stage the ball is in the Ball court.

Very sad for Goose but there is no doubt that his injuries have been his downfall and not the St Kilda Football Club.
Nathan Brown's and Egan's retirements would not have helped his push back in to the Seniors. I had hoped that with a full pre-season and working with the existing defensive group, that he would fire next year.
The coaches and conditioning staff must have thought otherwise and I have faith in them.
This doesn't stop me from feeling sad for Goose and I hope he kicks on somewhere else. Dean Rice did it, although different injuries, so I wish you all the best, Matt.

Most qualified architects do not work as architects.
There are too many institutions offering professional degrees for the building industry to absorb them.

Re: Well
Yet ur happy to write off two other Saints players who together have played more games for the SKFC than Goose?? That's not particularly in your viewing of the 'St.Kilda spirit!'1eyedNever wrote:Dam right i am member for 30 plus years and this club was aboutSaint Bev wrote:SO you have inside knowledge on Matty's medical condition? In all fairness, the Coaches clearly gave Goose a chance to recoup - as stated when he went down with injury AGAIN in 2008, they could have offloaded him then, but gave him a chance to come back and prove himself! Some may forget, but the Saints have given the Goose three years of rehab, yet he is still not the Goose of old.
Blame the injuries, Not St.Kilda - whilst it is sad to see him go, Goose's now empty spot on the list will see another young player gain the chance to play in the red, white and black! Good luck to him!

Re: Well
Understand where you're coming from but it's an emotive response and that would be the opposite of the consideration given to the decision to delist him. Whilst sad for Goose, I like the hard nosed attitude that Lyon and FF have brought to list management. No room for hanging on to someone because they're a good bloke or for any emotional bond that might be there. It's all about having the best footy team.1eyedNever wrote:

That was to give him his 100th game...as a reward.evertonfc wrote:What I don't get is that Drain said he would have played against Hawthorn had he not tweaked his hamstring. That was barely a few weeks before the end of the season.

For tall defenders, Sam, Gilberts, Zac and Blake are all in front if Gose.
Add to this Lyon's post GF comments that we were perhaps one player too tall down back and you get no future for Goose...unless we had a horrific injury run.
