What's the deal there - is he a flop or just injury issues?

Seems odd to de-list such a high draft pick after only 2 or 3 years - and yes here's another hack people want to pick up.

Thought he'd be worth a look.

Rumour has it is he is currently injury free but he has big attitude issues.

Also he had another year to run on his contract, but they still delisted him. So take that as you want...

Yeah chronic injuries, wouldn't mind having a look at him, but only if he slid to our third pick in the rookie draft...

Would expect Hawthorn to redraft him in the National Draft.

He won't be redrafted by the hawks. There are clearly some off-field/attitude issues involved. My understanding is that his injuries are now under control and he was in full training with the the hawks this week.

Does that mean we should try and pick him up maybe but he is obviously a risk.

Given how thin this draft is on talls odds are he'll get picked up. Wouldn't mind taking a punt on him late (ideally in the rookie draft), but I doubt we'll get the chance

SERIOUS UPSIDE to getting this guy. He's 20 FFS

Not to mention the Hawks are all over the shop this off-season. Thorp trained Monday, delisted Wednesday. They're making statements but I'm not sure they're making great decisions

Agree with you there....would be worth a rookie selection if he hasn't been picked up...nothing to lose really...

I reckon we're taking a young recycled player at 60 or 64 in the ND and Thorp is one of the better prospects on that list.

I think he would be a great acquisition if possible! If we had hypothetically taken him in trade week, i would have been happy if we lost a third or even second round pick for him - his talent and upside is huge - really huge!

But as many have mentioned, his injuries have played a part in his delisting, but his attitude is very strong - he is very, very arrogant. Very little amount of strong leadership at the Hawks (unlike at Saints), so we could have a chance of putting him in his place.

I would be very very happy to snare him with anything from pick 60 onwards... and probably wouldnt qualm if it was something earlier (which i doubt would be the case!)

His attitude problems were enough to get him delisted with a year on his contract. He's a gamble, but all things considered if we get the chance he's one worth taking

I doubt Thorp will wind up here. If he's unhappy with his situation at Hawthorn, then he wouldn't be too happy here. Aside from Roo and Kosi up forward, we've also got Lynch and Walsh. We've got enough defenders that he probably wouldn't get a game at all here. He'll probably wind up at a club where he'll get a game. Richmond seems a natural fit if Hardwick rates him. If Richmond want him, they can get him in the PSD, particularly if Ball decides to go to Melbourne.

Considering he was picked up 3 years ago at #6 in the 'superdraft' he must have talent. So i suppose the risk is worth it. In all honesty though if he is worth taking he'll most likely be gone before we can get him.

Bet his attitude problems weren't any worse than <injunction on name> from Whorethorn. I am sure Mitch had a few buddy's in that regard.

Taken No 6 in the 2006 National draft, ahead of Joel Selwood.
Is 194 cm.
He has been on Hawthorn's list for 3 years.
He had groin injuries and this year a broken foot restrictng him to one senior game in a team riddled with injuries.

Hawthorn has either:
recognised that his foot injury will never let him make
OR
grown tired of waiting for him to deliver
OR
decided to risk sending him to the rookie list, - Hawthorn gets a pick ahead of St Kilda.
OR
Seen him return from holidays in bad shape, and then said attitude plus injuries plus never delivered, we just don't want the headache.

Whichever it is Hawthorn must have seen something in him to have taken him ahead of Selwood.

Any team thinking of taking him would need to do a full medical on his foot and groin and a complete fitness test.
That's hard to do in secret these days, so would alert Hawthorn if they intend making him a rookie.
St Kilda would need to take him with a very late national draft pick.

In 2008 I was led to believe that the attitude was in realtion to having a very high opinion of himself.

Thought he should not have been playing at Box Hill.

If Hawthorn are forgiving enough to let Chris Pelchen keep his job after passing on Selwood, they should have been forgiving enough to put up with any problems with Thorp.

But then Pelchen probably looks at Thorp and thinks, "your presence is the proof of my incompetence, I'll get rid of you at the first chance".
