Hence, THEY chose to use their selection on Jolly.
But what did Connors expect St Kilda to do?

He's the guy that put the deal together with Collingwood for Ball.
It couldn't have been Ball because that would be against AFL rules - it can only have been Connors.

Did he seriously expect St Kilda just to roll over and provide the lubricant for Collingwood?

The instant he offered Jolly to Collingwood he was donig a dis-service to his client Ball - it was a conflict of interest.

And that's the point I was making.
Nothing to do with Collingwood's actions with St Kilda.

He told Ball that Collingwood were offering him a contract for 500k (apparently).
He told Ball that Collingwood wanted him and would deal with the Saints to get the trade done. Afterall they ahd a first round pick to use.
And he then offered another client, Jolly, to Collingwood knowing that Sydney expected a frist round pick for him. Collingwood only had 1 first round pick to use - Connors knew that too.

Collingwood did not even need a first round pick to get Ball, an early second round pick would have done the trick.

Pick 21 would have got St Kilda Andejs Everitt, Ball to Collingwood.
All Collingwood had to do was upgrade pick 30 to pick 21 which North Melbourne had.

But Malthouse would not part with a player who had more than a 1% chance of making it in the AFL.
North were willing to upgrade pick 30 to 25 in return for Wellingham but Malthouse would not offer up anyone better to upgrade to pick 21.

If Ball is honest he knows it is Malthouse who blocked his move to Collingwood.
