Paul Connors

Post: # 852910Post ace »

Paul Connors is going to be a busy boy this week.

By my reckoning he has yet to finalise contracts for

Luke Ball
Matt Maguire
Jason Akermanis  with Ricky Olarenshaw
David Wojcnski
Adam McPhee

No doubt each of these clients will be expecting his undivided attention to their circumstances.

Most of these players are looking at a pay cut and at this late stage, he will be dealing with clubs with nothing left in their salary caps.
Not very good managing I would suggest.

Does anyone know of any more of his players still out of contract.

I reckon he may loose a few clients in the coming months, his reputation and the handling of the Ball case has damaged his already poor reputation

He tried to trade himself to the Cayman Islands, but they didnot think he was worth pick 900000 in the draft

Does anybody know how many players Paul Connors has in his stable?

That list that Ace put up shows that somebody has not done their job very well.

Last minute negotiations are always fraught with danger, as time makes the eliminates the ability to thrust and parry. It usually ends either with 1 side having to cave in or no agreement being met.

I hope that the Saints can keep both Bally and Goose and that they both again become the Saintsational players we have previously seen.

Think he has a few Port players, but I also heard that some of them sacked him because of some of the way he wenat about his dealings with the club and statements he made

What player manager goes on holidays at this time of the year while some of his players are out of contract???

Yes, you are correct Eastern my mistake.

He still has Graham Polak out of contract.

He has Luke Hodge and Dom Cassisi in his stable but I believe they are under contract.

Sounds like a manager doing what he paid to do by his players. Get the best deal possible for the person he represents. I would think if a player thought he wasnt doing his job properly they would go to another manager.

Players need to wake up that a lot of managers are managing their own career and not the player's career.

Well he would seem to need to explain how he managed to get Collingwood's Pick 14 used on another of his Clients, Jolly, rather than on Luke Ball, as he was supposed to do.

If Ball ends up playing anywhere for less than the reputed 500k Collingwood had offered him, then it would appear, at face value, that Connors has 'screwed' Ball in favour of another client.

The very fact that managers mangae more than 1 player means they are going to confront conflicts of interest that may/will effect one client over another.

In teh Ball negotiations between St Kilda and Collingwood, whose interests were being represented first and foremost by Connors?

It would appear that Jolly was given preference over Ball.

I can imagine Connors telling Luke Ball:

"Look you want to go to Collingwood because they are a premiership contender and need an inside midfielder like you.
You will get more game time at Collingwood and because they will pay you more than St Kilda, I will get paid more.

Collingwood on the other hand wants another of my clients that will take Collingwood's 1st and 3rd round picks.
There is going to be a problem.
St Kilda wont trade you for a late 2nd round pick and on past record Collingwood wont part with a player who has more than a 1% chance of making it in the AFL.

But go ahead tell St Kilda you want out.
If you dont get to Collingwood you could end up tanking for wooden spoons at Melbourne but I will get paid handsomely by Melbourne for wrecking your career."

Like I said, I can imagine, but I am sure he forgot to tell Luke.

Ball's manager, Paul Connors, who has just returned from holidays, said he was unaware of his client's intentions.

''Luke is still on holiday and I haven't spoken to him, so I can't comment on what his plans are,'' Connors said yesterday. ''I'll catch up with him when he gets back to Australia but that's all there is to say at this stage

Yes, AFAIK.

And orchestrated the farce 2 seasons ago of the Judd 'circus' inspecting facilites and interviewing prospective Clubs when he had already agreed to go to Visy weeks (if not months) before.

In all fairness, Collingwood only had one pick. As both his clients wanted to go to the Pies, Collingwood probably did what was best for them. Midfielders are a dime a dozen, genuine ruckmen like Jolly are very hard to come by. They probably thought St Kilda would buckle, and Jolly was worth more than Ball (as do I). Hence, THEY chose to use their selection on Jolly.

Well I will place my dime to buy Geelong's dozen midfielders. On GF day we had two All Australians in the ruck and lost.
