nah, see, obama plays tall but he's only about 186 - perfect for luke ball's spot if bally happens to leave. he's good at getting it, though his use leaves a little to be desired.

the only problem is that obama and walsh will take votes off each other in the brownlow. my tip is that obama will be in front early - because he's a bit more experienced - but that walsh will storm home in the last few rounds with six consecutive bogs to take him to 38 votes, just ahead of obama's 36.

and of course walsh is a certainty for the norm smith. how can you lose it if you kick 17 goals?

Obama looks like he is an indigeneous player.
I hope he is fast and agile.
I hear that where ever he goes he is never far from a football.

There'll be quite a few comedy writers in the USA who are sad to see Dubya go.

Anyway, back on topic...

I was actually refering to Seamus O'Bama, not the Prez.

Yeah, but I heard that where ever the Prez goes THE football follows him.
Now that's the sort of player we need.

Back to the point, and to use an old naval phrase, he can run, jump, f***, fight, use a barrow, ride a bike, which is all another way to say - I reckon he'll prove to be able to play.

See, Other Thommo has nailed it and knows where it's at - we should be back to talking flags, Brownlows, and Colemans. Most of which the big ginge has already parcelled up for 2010.

Ha ha - the poor kid - he has no expectations from Saints fans!! Still, that's the price when you sign up when you look so capable. Win a flag and maybe a B&F in your first year or we will revolt! Revolt, I tells ya, and I don't mean that gun blond guy!

GO big fella!

Yes mid November accompanied by fellow Kerry teammate Dave Moran who has accepted the offer of a fortnight's trial with the Saints.

And also in company is this year's Gaelic football player of the year Michael Murphy, who is wanted for trial by five Clubs, Brisbane, Geelong, North Melbourne, Richmond and the Saints

There were 3 nominees for the Irish younng player of the year.
Murphy was the winner.
Aidan O'Shea (from Mayo, not the one from Kerry) was one of the 3 nominees.

As well as signing Tommy Walsh this week, St Kilda have taken his team mate David Moran on a two week trial. The Kerry natives are GAA club teammates at Kerins O'Rahillys and coincidently Moran replaced Walsh as a substitute in the recent All Ireland final victory against Cork. It is also rumoured that Co. Mayo full back Ger Cafferkey has been offered a two year deal with the Saints. This news comes in contrast to the surprising decision by Colm Begley to return to Ireland having played only 1 senior game for the Saints in 2009.

Has anyone heard anything about this?
Can't find much info about Ger Cafferkey, except he is a 21yr old full back...

In my searches i found a picture of him playing on tommy as well... thought i might as well post it if anything just to tie in to the topic of the thread :?

This Murphy chap, and Aiden O'Shea, those articles say that the saints are interested in both of them. When will we know who, if anyone, has picked them up? What's the deadline again?

In my completely spontaneous opinion with no real evidence to back it up, we should hit hard and fast at these boys and snap them up.

I am going to start a rumour that the GAA has signed an agreement to merge with the St Kilda football club so that all Irish players can play for the Saints in the AFL.

Ger Cafferkey rumour was raised back in July this year.
The rumour was that he had been signed to a 2 year rookie deal - if he had signed we would have heard the announcement before now.
Cafferkey plays full back for county Mayo, his local club is Ballina Stephenites, he was 21 years old at JUne 2009.

I think the best we can expect is that either he is coming for trial or has yet to decide (if he has been made an offer).

When will we see these Irish Guys.

Well, the home and away season finished 30 August.
That means the teams that finished outside the 8 have just finished their 8 week holiday and will resume pre-season training this week.

Theoretically those clubs could start trialling Irish players this week.

However St Kilda season did not finish until 26 September.
That means pre-season training should not start until Monday 23 November.

Rookie prelisting ahead of the rookie draft closes Tuesday 1 Decmber.
That only gives St Kilda one week to assess the players and get their signatures.

If a player were to train for two weeks as suggested for Moran they would need t ostart training before the main list returns.
They would not be alone in this training as aussies hoping to be taken by St Kilda in the pre-season draft and rookie draft on Tuesday 15 December would probably need to start training with the club earlier.

Players who were not required to train for the AFL finals may have been excused early and sent on holiday early.
They may be required to return earlier.
More meat and potatoes required.

Anyone who trained for the AFL finals would not be required to start pre-season before 23 November.

Most of the team continued to train right through to the final week- plus training staff etc would also be on breaks,
4 of the reserves/rookies played the week before in the Sandringham reserves grand final
some were already on crutches and had surgery during those final weeks.
