Saints WANT Ball-latest info?

Post: # 850187Post saintbrat »

Melbourne, Richmond, Fremantle and North Melbourne appear unlikely to poach the veteran goalkicker, instead pouring their efforts into Luke Ball.

The race for the disgruntled Saints' onballer took a twist yesterday with St Kilda believed to be firmly back in the running, if not the front-runner, to keep Ball.

It is understood St Kilda officials and teammates who are in New York where Ball is holidaying plan to talk with the former club captain about staying at Moorabbin.

That commitment was matched by Melbourne chiefs, who are prepared to fly to the US to talk to him.

It is believed Ball remains upset with St Kilda after the club failed to trade him to his preferred destination, Collingwood, and then withdrew its three-year contract offer.
If Ball nominates for the National Draft, Melbourne could swoop with pick 11 or 18, while Collingwood, Brisbane Lions and Fremantle are also lining up for the 25-year-old.

Frenzied negotiations will almost certainly begin from tomorrow, when Ball's manager, Paul Connors, returns from holiday   ..

Saints have always expressed wish for Luke to stay

Well I hope he stays for two reasons:

(1) To piss off a few clubs that want him.

(2) So he works his arse off to be red hot trade meat in a years time, so we do get a first rounder for him!

Good to hear some of our boys are going to catch up with him in New York.

In a different environment like that it will hopefully make him realise that
- he is still wanted by the club
- he is still wanted by the players

Then he will have time to contemplate all that plus
- the premiership potential by staying
- and one team player benefits

before he comes home to
- media bombardment,
- harassment by other clubs,
- and the influence of his money-hungry ("show me the commission") manager

The longer that Ball himself takes to make some sort of comment, even via a released statment, the more the media speculation and rumours etc will continue.

For the record, I hope he stays.

There's no way that Ball will play for Melbourne.

Another opportunity awaits!

I hope ball stays at st kilda, signs a 3 year contract and wins 3 premierships with the saints, then signs another 3 year contract and goes into the veterans category with the saints.

and gets a half decent player manager as well.

IMO some of the bagging of ball is uncalled for.

:D We can only dream, can't we. But how good would that be.
I agree he needs a new manager.

I need to know that Luke needs to know that being needy when you don't feel needed is not needed especially when you are getting needled when you are needed.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

We don't need him and neither does any other team.

We would like him to stay and other teams would like him.

If Luke Ball needs to be needed, he should find a good woman, get married and have some kids.

Otherwise, he should grow up and play footy to the best of his ability.

I thought a holiday was supposed to be some sort of reward for hard work.
But Paul Connors gets a holiday for being a failure.
Where is the justice in that?

i'm just wondering if on a reduced salary this whole thing hasn't been a massive pull on the crookwood name.

ie. "crookwood? you know how to play the game? play the trade game .. you dont want to play? why? do you know how to play the game? you know how to play the game dont you? cmon crookwood - lets play the game!!"

Saints always want Ball.
Problem was they didn't kick it between the two big posts enough on that last Saturday in September.
Ball didn't get enough goal time.

The Saints haven't given up hope of retaining Ball, who fell out of favour last season after twice being dropped to VFL affiliate Sandringham, with two club officials reportedly flying to New York to speak to Ball, who is holidaying there.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
But the Demons haven't ruled out plucking Ball with their fourth pick overall (pick 18) in the draft and are also negotiating with Ball's management to potentially take him in the pre-season draft.
>>>>>>>>>
Ball's manager Paul Connors told The Sunday Age yesterday that a decision on Ball's preferred destination was still at least two weeks away: ''He's away, I'm away, we'll chat when we're all back.''

It would seem that club "officials" have worked out what they can afford under the salary cap, flown to New York to see Ball.

As he is coming out of contract it is possible that his contract with Paul Connors is expiring too.

It would be lovely if he were to sign without consulting Connors, sack Connors, and keep Connors cut for himself. :D :D :D

5% of $150k (minimum AFL wage) is $6,900USD or a good holiday to new york. :)
