Once you drop a couple in the wet it's pretty instinctive to try and take a chest mark. Trust me, I'm a doctor.Milton66 wrote: An interesting observation made by Walls on the Monday where he stated that Roo should focus on taking more marks with his hands out front, not on his chest.
Looking at the replay, he tried to mark on his chest too often. That's not to say that he would have marked over his head, but gee, at least he would have got clean hands to the ball, and perhaps caused a clean spillage.

The long bomb directive and the fact Luke Ball could have played two more bursts of 6 minutes, both errors were owned by Ross immediately after the game. I am sure he didn't put them into the public forum just for the sake of it, I am sure he intends to learn and grow from this experience.rodgerfox wrote:Lyon's selections, and use of players worked all year.Milton66 wrote:
true. But then you wonder why coaches don't say much. Ross was being honest in hidnsight, and he get's caned for it.
I stated in another post that in 97 at 3/4 time, then yes you make changes becvause we were on a hiding to nothing.
But in 09, I mean FFS, we were in it until 5 mins to go.
Maybe the geniuses amongst us can tell us exactly when these changes should have been made.
It's easy to sit on the sidelines and throw peanuts.. but tell me please, without the benfit of hindsight.. what changes and when should they have been made?
I'm all ears.
Although I don't agree neccessarily with them - they worked. So why argue with it?
The only thing I categorically think he needs to be held accountable for, is the directive to 'bomb it long' in the final quarter. This was a huge, huge mistake and a significant moment in our history.
I still can't believe he did it.
I am quite annoyed that you never felt the need to elaborate on your issues with selection. You were fired up enough about them soon after the GF, but perhaps your frustration has lessened as you have realised that they were not significant?

Was I? I certainly don't remember being fired up about anything after the GF.SainterK wrote:

I rarely get fired up about the footy.
Oh I forgot, please clarify again for me how a 6000+ fan forum poster fell out of love with footy?rodgerfox wrote:Was I? I certainly don't remember being fired up about anything after the GF.SainterK wrote:

It's called growing up. As a kid, footy is played by men whom you idolise and aspire to be like.
As an adult, if you're aspiring to be like a guy 5-10 years younger than you, then something's not quite right.
Seeing adults go feral about the footy is just weird I reckon. I pity grown adults who take it that seriously.
If you do, then as they say in the classics - it's time to get yourself a life.
How that relates to posting on a forum, well, I'm not sure why you think there's a correlation. I post on several forums on different topics. Doesn't mean I love them. I just have an interest in them, and enjoy discussion.

Do they need to 'get a life' too?
It's called passion.
If it's lacking in your life it may explain why you now need a prescription and a pill or a nasal delivery device to help please your partner.

Passion about things you can control or have influence over is great.markp wrote:If it's a very big dinner party and it goes tits-up then some may... so what?rodgerfox wrote:Do you stand there and scream at yor stove? Being passionate and heavily emotionally impacted by something you absolutely, categorically have no control or influence over is almost the definition of insanity.

Is it a personal lack of passion in general that compels you to be constant the fly in the ointment of others?
Yep...guilty as charged of the above..what can I say im a passionate cook lolrodgerfox wrote:Do you stand there and scream at yor stove? And cry if you meal doesn't turn out the way you wanted? You're not sure why I thought there was a correlation between posting on a football supporter forum (often) and being passionate about your footy...
Well I fail to see the connection between someone being reactive at the footy, and how that somehow means that they are aspiring to be like those they watch?

Hotel De Los Muertos: Your room is ready... Care to step inside?
I'm sure rodger shouts out "yeahhhh!" or "come onnn sainters" after an important goal maybe even waves his scarf around if he thinks nobody's watching.
Surely!
I reckon it's those blokes who totally lose the plot and deliver 30-second profanity-laden broadsides to umpires that are way too much for me.
Or the blokes you see standing above the race giving it to the players after a poor half of football.
Or those behind the goal leaning over the fence shouting abuse at players thinking they're all tough behind the comfort of the fence and the security of national tv.
No fan of them, unless they're St Kilda supporters, in which case, those footballers deserved everything they got.

or a poetry recital?
Now thats what RF wants us to behave like at the football.
Wow - no passion, no excitement, no love of the game, no tribalism, no socialisation.
Actually nothing that accounts for the human condition.
We all need to be emotionaless automatrons.
How exciting would footy be - and life for that matter without the emotion??
Go and read Brave New World. I, like John Savage demand my emotional riights as a human and an individual.
If those emotions and passions upset others - too bad.
Lance or James??

Is there a prize for the thread that meanders furthest from it's subject?
This one's looking pretty good for the gong if there is!

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
