Gold Coast Playing Ball

Post: # 848250Post BackFromUSA »

Strong word that Gold Coast have approached Connors. Theoretically they can pay Luke Ball to sit out 2010, perhaps take up a coaching / leadership role with their development squad and use 2010 to get his body right and then be the captian of the Gold Coast team in 2011.

All rumour.

No credible source.

Mostly based on theory.

Given some credibility after the NRL / Hunt signing.

Certainly not floated yet in media. Look out for it in the coming days.

As a 25 year old, who's just had a pretty poor season. Also had 2 clubs not even think about offering more then a 2nd round draft pick, in a year where the draft is weak....

Doubt he'd really want to move to a team where he won't play at all next year...

And fair enough, however, IMO IF Ball went down this path - sat out the game for a year etc it would tell me clearly.....money IS a far bigger motivator in Balls decision to leave Saints than just a dispute over game time....

Good luck to him - just dont use the club to hide your true motive.

imo he'd have to be pretty stupid to do this unless his sole goal was money. By the time Gold Coast get into a grand final he'll be long gone...

Probably coming from the man himself....

Great way to get his player more game time.

Whatever it is he's been sniffing, I'd like some.

Why would he stand out of footy for the year.

He wouldn't.

By the start of 2010, most people would have forgotten who Ball is, let alone if he's any good.

I'm not sure that LB would have to sit out of football entirely if he ended up at the GC next season. They will be fielding a VFL team in 2010 and perhaps Luke could lead that group. With the talent they have aready assembled at GC, he might be playing in a more successful team than Melbourne or Richmond!!!

Sure he's more then excited at the prospect of playing in the VFL for 12 months, then playing with a bunch of kids how at best will get close to a premiership around 2012....

it'd be remiss of the GC not to approach ball. would be a very good leader for their first few years. might keep armo out of a spot tho

Would be smart move by Melbourne to offer him a one year contract and then trade with GC.

Part of me wonders if the reason luke didnt sign the contract at the saints is because he only wanted a one year contract.

Why would that be a good move?

Geez... have people here tried their hands at fantasy novels or alien abduction websites? We've got a lot of talent here...

The first time I've laughed after reading something in this forum since the GF.

I reckon this 'rumour' may have genuine legs. REceived an e-mail from my brother who lives on the sunshine coast. I have copied and pasted it with certain names deleted.

"Had a BBQ with (name deleted) tonight at his unit in Noosa - he was saying that Ball's manager is staying there too and was on the phone adnauseum around the pool! (name deleted) stealthily listened in to his conversations. Basically was talking to someone about waiting till Scotty gets back (Scotty Clayton, GC17?) and looking to go anywhere for 12mths as long as he can stitch a deal up with the GC for 2011 and onwards.

Good scoop."

If true Moods,he'll go down as one of the biggest money whores of all time.

Imagine the scenario....walking out on saints after delivering 'plodder' standard on 600K a year, then signing at another club for a year, then walking out on them to go and play deep in footy heartland that is the Gold Coast.

I'll be booing him...that's if the plodder gets a game
