Available Numbers
There are some significant guernsey numbers free at st kilda now:
3
8
35 (unlikely to be used again)
4
14 (if bally leaves)
etc
Do you think any current players will change their number or these numbers will be eventually taken by recruits and draftees? eg: Peake

Yep at the time i thought it should have gone to Ball too. Funny that as it turns out, both look to be leaving.henno wrote:On a side note, interesting to see that X (through no fault of his own, injuries, death of his father, etc) never truly lived up to his potential that saw Burkey present him with his old number...in hindsight it should've been given to Ball.
Destiny. It's in our hands.
Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger.
Maybe it's a sign! Milne shouldn't play GF'sHSVKing wrote:I had a scary thought today about our numbers...
In 1997 (31 years since premiership) Jamie Shanahan was full back (Number 31).
In 2009 (43 years since premiership) Zac Dawson was full back (Number 43).
What do we do about that????
I guess don't play Milney at full back!
Nah, i like him
Nah, just play him in the forward pocket#1GILL wrote:Maybe it's a sign! Milne shouldn't play GF'sHSVKing wrote:I had a scary thought today about our numbers...

Good post
I feel that Zac (once promoted off the rookie list) will get a different number next season
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!

My thoughts exactly and I'm sure Robert Harvey doesn't think the number should be retired.plugger66 wrote:Why the hell wouldnt 35 be used again. Its a friggin number.
35 wasn't handed on because Harves is not into that sort of crap.
The only numbers that have been personally handed on were Stewie giving Kosi #23 and I remember at the time Kosi said he wanted to make his own history.
Burkie handed over the #3 to X.
Let the players make their own number famous.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

I dont think #35 should be retired..but I do think due diligence should be given to who is offered it. Banger is and will always be a very special part of our history
Yes its just a number, but St Pauls Cathedral is just a church and I havent seen any plans to pull it down and replace it with something more modern that works as a church too

That should do it.
edit: oops that would only work if we'd actually won it this year.
I'm in a strange place tonight.
