A very important stand was made today, congrats to all involved.

I'd say Luke Ball will be having an interesting conversation with his manager right about now.

A very short conversation.

Paul Connors, you're fired!

You would think that Luke Ball woud be very disappointed with Collingwood,if they valued him so lowly that they only offered pick 25.
He should swallow his pride and work hard to perform, and EARN his place in the team which will challenge for a flag.
Surely this would be better than taking a soft option to a lower team with the PSD.

Stumbling blocks = Pies offering 2 blades of grass and the assitant bootstudder for him

really want him to stay now..if he walks out and goes to the PSD then our trade week is well in the negative IMO
Ball out , Lovett and Peake in .

a good week.

Stumbling blocks include Collingwoods arrogance and lack of available quality players.

Sign for a year with us Luke. If you don't like it after a year then you can head up GC17 or Collingwood can try again with a reasonable offer. It's up to you now Luke, make the right decision and prove your worth to us and the Pies.

I'd rather have pick 25 than nothing. That offer wasn't that bad, especially for someone who had so little game time this year and will be a year older next year.

Ball was never going to be getting much of a run with us because he has been savaged by OP. He can't kick, was never quick and now is hopelessly slow. He gets the ball but mostly murders it. He is a fanatical and fantastic tackler. But that doesn't get you a game in one of the best teams. We need to put more game time into Armo & Steven.

All up, I don't blame Bally for wanting a trade given he is unlikely to see much senior game time for all these reasons with StKilda.

Now if he stays, he has to prove himself and through that set an example to younger players on the training track. If he goes in the pre-season draft, it is most likely to a bottom side. Might get more games there, but won't make them a bigger threat to us in the H&A season.

How things have played themselves out this week makes it all a pretty good outcome for us in the end I reckon.

No point playing him next year if he's going to leave again at the end.

Might as well play armo and stevens and any young guy that wants to stay and play for the jumper imo.

The best things about the Ball deal not going through gives a clear message to all of the other clubs that if you want one of our players you'd better bve prepared to give up something, even if it means losing the player to the PSD.
It also tells our players that if you don't want to commit to the club then you can go somewhere else but it will be at our discretion not yours.

The other good thing about the Ball deal not going through is that the pies still have one critical weakeness in their list - they have no decent inside mids and haven't since Scotty Burns retired- what that means is they won't win enough clearances in a finals environment.

Saying that I wish we could have got fair compensation for Ball but at least we didn't reward the pies for shafting us

The trade meant that X was already out...others had pushed past him.

Ball was fringe...Armo, Steven and Geary breathing down his neck...

Lovett looks to becomea regular.

Peake is unknown.

Personally I see our 2010 team as being better.
