All the club has been getting the past few days is unfair kicks up the bum, I am over it....Mr Magic wrote:Maybe it's less of a 'trade' and more of a 'list management' issue?
If so then the Club deserves plaudits for allowing X, a fine servant cruelled by injury, another opportunity to finally achieve what he promised all those years ago?
Not much but if we all know #60 is s.hite I would hazzard a guess that the club knows it as well.Teflon wrote:Thats all great...pick 60 in a shyte draft?chook23 wrote:A player with injury history

what r u gonna develop for that?
We only need to take two in the draft plus a rookie.
May not even be used if we keep it.
Good luck X.
Lance or James??

I agree, I was disappointed when I first heard about X being traded because I have been saying all last year we have still got x to come back in next year. But he is very injury prone and after so much time out would make it more so I think.Milton66 wrote:Frankly, we only ever saw glimpses of X's best, as he was injury prone.
You can compare him with Peake etc, but the cold hard facts are that our latest recruits have AFL bodies.
yeah i wouldn't be surprised to see 60 go with ball and our 2 picks to be decent.Griggsy wrote:I don't know all the technical stuff and I just thought of this.
So, I read on here that you need to make a number of selections in the draft and we were are at the minimum level. Soooo now we have another pick and we can trade one off as part of a Ball Deal? If my logic is right we could see a big trade tmr.

Agreed. X played some very, very good football. He's also a quality kid. Hopefully he gets his body right and proves a lot of people wrong.hotdish wrote:played 100 games, gave his all, represented the club well off the field and mentored many of our indegenous players.Mooksy wrote:Question: What did he ever do for us?
have some fkn respect.
nostalgia wearing off. Looking at it from Brisbanes view. This guy is coming back from a Knee recon, hasnt played a string of AFL games in God knows how long. We would like him, but can he keep up, will his knee give more issues, will he still be as fast? Need some insurance, pick 60 it is.
Logically it was either going to be keep him or get a low pick. In Ross we Trust, he has proven himself enough for me to believe in him, he has a plan.

He hasnt been on the ground for 5 minutes how could he be the fastest?borderbarry wrote:I still think we have been shafted big time. Pick 60 for X-man??? And here we are trading for fast players and giving perhaps our fastest player away for Pick 60!
He was worth peanuts, he got a second chnace and took it.

what makes you think that X was one of our fastest players??
Also bearing in mind coming of a knee reco and many hamstring injuries?
Yes, X is worth more than pick 60, we all know that, but with the inclusion of two faster midfielders, and X thinking that maybe he not get much games he has moved on.
We may not pick a player at #60, so be it. I wonder if the Lions are going to pick up the 1 year price the Club had on him???
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!

From the club's point of view I can't help but feel it's more about freeing up space in the cap and on the list (noting we've already picked up 2 players with possibly 1 more to come). And given X's history it would be a bit hard to demand more than we got from Brisbane.
And from X's point of view it seems he has a bit more security which is important once again given his history with injuries.
So the pick 60 is irrelevant in my view.
Like others I totally trust RL and his team.
And all the best Xavier.

Meh...why bother wasting your time getting stuck into either of them. Footy is emotion for us, but for a player it's also a business, they've got a limited time to act on their career potential. Good luck to X, good luck to Bally.Saint Bev wrote:So X has chosen to walk also. So how come everyones not getting stuck into him like Luke. No difference. If anything he is more injury prone.
because he was contracted to the Saints. We could have blocked it if we wanted to.Saint Bev wrote:So X has chosen to walk also. So how come everyones not getting stuck into him like Luke. No difference. If anything he is more injury prone.
X signed a contract - Ball wouldn't sign a contract and has started this crap about family unhappy and untenable all through leaking to the media.
Ball has been dishonourable and is getting shirty because he is not getting his own way.
he also almost certainly was negotiating with Collingwood during our finals series - remember that thing the GF we were trying to win?
Basically there is good will toward X - none toward Ball.

I don't see them as similar cases at all.Saint Bev wrote:So X has chosen to walk also. So how come everyones not getting stuck into him like Luke. No difference. If anything he is more injury prone.
Tp start with, X has been respectful and thankfull to the Club. He also hasn't seemed to be bagging the Club either.
He hasn't claimed:-
he was offered more by the Saints than Brisbane
He wants more game time
he finds himself in an untenable position with the Coach.
And there is absolutely no inkling of him having been negotiating for some time with Brisbane or any other Club.
Maybe these are part of the reason that X hasn't received the same angst as Luke Ball.
Maybe forumites are deeply disappointed with the way Ball's departure/defection has been orchestrated?

A pick that we probably wont use for a player that was probably never going to play consecutive games for us again...
A nil all draw...
I believe that we are only really disappointed by this deal because of the hope that Xavier represented when we were coming off a few bad years...
If Xavier was taken off hie rookie list instead of being a top 5 draft pick we wouldn't really care about this trade.
Good luck Xavier, hope you have a successful career, just not against us.
