I think this has been coming for a while now. Those that have been hanging on post GT that either haven't cut it or don't fit Ross's game plan are either making decisions to go or are being moved on. We are moving completely across into Ross's era. The ones struggling from the last regime are becoming history - that, unfortunatley or fortunately depending on your view, is life.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

agreed, but was X still contracted?Teflon wrote:Just had to be worth more than pick 60.....his form in the twos this year was offering great hope - he was almost pushing his way back into the side...
Something not right with this trade at all.
if not, it's my belief that he has the right to choose a Club (same as Ball, and Judd a couple of years back)
Brisbane did not have too many draft picks left, anyone know what draft picks are left for Brisbane.
Assuming my assumption is correct

Good point. The bottom line is that we now have more depth. You do not recruit Lovett to play him at Sandy.Banger724 wrote:Aparently Brisbane were keen on him after missing out on Lovett? If Ross didn't see him in our best 22, would think we've done the right thing by him by letting him go for better opportunities/more stable contract.
So who's the better player at their best.. and who has the better injury run?

Yeah it's a case of he's worth more to us than anyone else. BUt that in mind why trade him at his very lowest?Mr Magic wrote:He's also a soft tissue injury afflicted 25yo who's coming back from a full knee reco.markp wrote:We're obviously looking after him, and more interested in making $ room than the trade.
To expect much more tahn what we've received is probalby asking for too much.

Hmm...would have preferred to see Macdonald involved in the deal, but doesn't matter.
As much as X is a terrific person, and a talented footballer, the reality is he's hardly ever on the park. Even when he was fit, he was quite an inconsistent footballer, brilliant on his day, but could go missing just as easily. I think his spot in the team has been lost due to the form of players such as Gram, and the recruitment of Lovett and Peake. Pick 60 might not seem like much, and we probably are getting robbed considering his talent, but he's 25, has struggled to string consecutive game of footy together over the last 3-4 years, and thus has hardly any value.
Wish him all the best.

But the Club has secured two faster mids that play the same role as X and if he was uncontracted, he would obviously would like to move closer to Darwin

Worth pick 90 in an unincumbered draft.xander wrote:why what a bad trade. Pick 60 is absolutely worthless this year.
Doubt that pick will even be used.
He has been given away for nothing, like Geelong gave us King and Charlie Gardiner.

Yup, i'm also hopeful it's related to the Ball saga, and maybe a deal has been all but done and we're making room for it.Mr Magic wrote:He's also a soft tissue injury afflicted 25yo who's coming back from a full knee reco.markp wrote:We're obviously looking after him, and more interested in making $ room than the trade.

In fairness to the club, it's been sometime since he was at his highest though. The club could actually be doing the right thing by X, though some seem to think Ross incapable of this?xander wrote:Yeah it's a case of he's worth more to us than anyone else. I don't know all the technical stuff and I just thought of this.
So, I read on here that you need to make a number of selections in the draft and we were are at the minimum level. Soooo now we have another pick and we can trade one off as part of a Ball Deal? If my logic is right we could see a big trade tmr.

its been a long long time since i last saw x play, and the most recent memory i remember of him is when trent west took him out
but still, if my memory isnt as shoddy as it seems, i remember him as a pacy winger, and if we so badly need pace, why is he being traded?
and i rate x higher than peake so why has x gone for a lower pick
however, wats done is done
