Josh Fraser a factor in Ball trade

Post: # 844502Post ytw »

http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/rfnews ... 65580.html

The introduction of a player such as Fraser to trade discussions may advance Collingwood's prospects of being able to do a deal to secure St Kilda midfielder Luke Ball.

Personally, i can't see much of a role for Fraser, but I guess it is worth discussing.

FFS,wouldn't be happy with this. I don't want to the world for Ball, just not another injury prone ruckman,we have 3.
We need a mid or medium forward, other than that don't bother

why do people read into the article he may be involved coming to us.......

it clearly does not say that.........

he may be used in a deal (elsewhere) to give coll something to offer us.

Probably as I didn't read the article.
The heading of Fraser was enough to set me off

Collingwood would be trying to off-load Fraser without too much scrutiny of his medical records. They might show that his knee is in worse condition than Robert Campbell's, and we all know that Campbell's knee was the reason for his retirement at 27.

But then again, if the Bulldogs are stupid enough to entertain Fraser in part of a 3 way deal ............................ !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Absolutely under no circumstances should Josh Fraser be at St Kilda next year.

Collingwood does NOT have to deal.
They can close up shop and go home leaving Luke Ball swinging in the breeze.
They will have suceeded in sabotaging St Kilda, a premiership rival, by having Luke Ball walk out.

It is time for St Kilda to put Ball on the open market, available to any club who wants him.
Now that Collingwood has traded away their 1st and 3rd round picks he has lost his right of refusal.
Ball has no choice but to accept, otherwise he ends up playing for wooden spoons at Melboure via the pre-season draft.

Can the title of the thread be changed ffs? It's pure speculation at this stage and there's not an ounce of evidence to show that he's part of any proposed deal.

we wouldn't go near Fraser..he's nearly had it.. but yeah, getting him involved in a 3 way deal would be good.

a good young guy in McKinley or Everitt for Ball would be great and then maybe look at Tuck in the pre season. This would mean we get a good young 3rd tall. heaps of pace, depth and goal kicking ability through Lovett and Peake and a tough inside mid to help cover Ball in Tuck, where some of his deficiency's could be covered while his strenghs utilized.

What teams have room in their salary caps for Luke and like to have stoppage players, have room in their salary cap, especially if Fevola goes to Brisbane..

Ross, it is time to get on the phone to your mate in Sydney.
It's Sydney or Melbourne for you Luke Ball.

Wonder how his family would feel about him heading interstate? At least they wouldn't have to be so concerned over his game time anymore.....

Would either WC or the Bulldogs have much interest in Fraser?

Despite not going to Saints, he could be a key factor in a three way trade.

The Doggies have put contract negotiations with Acker and Eagleton on hold because Lake's greed has blown their salary cap predictions. That despite Acker agreeing to a $200,000 hair cut.

They would only take Fraser at the minmum allowble player salary.
That deal is not happening.

Time to find Luke a new home not at Collingwood or he plays for wooden spoons at Melbourne.

However, Everitt is under contract so if he moved in any three way deal the Doggies would be able to use his salary to pay whomever they received for him.

But that does not help solve the Acker & Eagleton situation and I can't see Josh Fraser accepting Everitt's salary.

What the Doggies need is
picks in,
player out.

And the only pick Collingwood has left is pick 30 which should not be enough for Everitt or St Kilda to take for Ball.

Not sure about that, Ball for much of the year was either in form that didn't warrant first 22 selection or actually out of the team altogether. Sadly for everyone involved, he became something of a fringe player... the same would happen next year too, he would be the midfielder facing the chopping block if there were others pushing for selection.

I think that he has to go into the PSD if a suitable last minute deal doesn't happen. St Kilda shouldn't accept a bad deal just for the sake of getting something. Still wouldn't mind Dale Thomas for Ball, that is a fair swap and in all fairness about the only thing Collingwood could offer us (besides draft picks or non-22 players).

he missed 5 games - played 20 - and we won in all but two he played in.
ball's form was not nearly as poor as many are recalling. it was below our expectations for ball perhaps, and it was hoped a spell in the magoos would sharpen his appetite as we needed him to play to his potential. but he was not keeping a better player out!

2009 averages (rounded to nearest full no.)
disposals 20
tackles 6 (18th in league)
1%ers 6
frees for 2 (9th in league)
contested possessions 5
uncontested 19
all this from limited game time.

The limited game time that probably allowed him to play in all those games without breaking down with OP.

probably true - but regardless of game time he racked up decent stats and was more than worth his inclusion in almost every game he played.
imagine two hard at the ball mids sharing the game and both getting those stats!

I think you will also find that being fresh from the rotations your racking up alot of possies in a short space of time by coming on as a shock player.
