For those few who think we've done badly in this deal, you might like to have a look at what the Bombers fans think about it. It makes for some funny reading! They watch him every week, so they know what they're talking about, and one after the other are furious that they only got pick 16 for him (comments underneath the article):

YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! This is awesome. I was just thinking last year how we could do with a lovett or alwyn davey this is AWESOME. This guy is lightning and kicks goals LONG goals unlike ball.

As someone mentioned we will simply offload Ball for a first round pick obviously better like 12 or something so we ineffect get lovett for ball. Thats what we needed. We have Armo and Steven coming up to play balls role. Make no mistake Steven is a gun wouldve gone top 10 in the draft had he not been signed one year early well done saints!!

Trading since Lyon has been supberb to say the least.

Saints 2010 YEAH!

Great pick up.
I like this pick-up too.. Whilst I dont think Lovett will end up like the following list its important to not over do it in regards to winning it now mentality;
remember Brian Wilson, Tony Antrobus, Jim Krakouer, Monkhurst and Francis??!! :?

When it comes to trading Ross has been exceptional tho so i don't see this being any different.

Hey 27 is a great age to pick up a player. Essendon have given him nearly 100 games. He comes to us knowing that he has stuffed up off field and this is his last chance. He knows that we can win a flag, and Essendon is still a couple of years away. He's fast and can be a match winner. I lovett
I lovett too. Classic mate

fantastic trading, very happy

giving up pick 16 is not the worse outcome. As people have said, taking out the 17 year olds this year means that you basically push back each pick after the top 10 by 5-10 picks.

Gives us speed, skill and goal kicking midfield. Would be suprised to see him take raph's role but saying that I'm in the camp that thinks raph as a half forward come wing is a better fit for club and player. But that is another argument for a different thread.

Well done to the club, dran and ross seem to be great traders. Also seem to get the trade done because they are willing to meet other clubs half way (unlike some, yes you hawks and pies).

16 for Lovett is a fair trade. Can't say I'm happy though. Lots of talk why the Bombers were so keen to get rid of him and not just the incident with his ex. Hope he can get his attitude right because he will be an on-field asset if so.

I'd say there is an equal amount of Essendon supporters angry about him leaving...

The Saints do their due diligence and won't have picked Lovett without giving it the proper consideration. Remember all the research they did last year on Cousins before deciding not to pull the trigger? They'll have susses Lovett out thoroughly before agreeing to the trade.

Finey just mentioned that Lovetts dad Ian Barry played reserves for the Saints - so there is a connection.

no 16 so not as good as 15
We may have given up pick 16 but it should be remembered this year the window of youngsters is only 8 months wide instead of 12 months.
That makes the pick we surrended equivalent to pick 24 in an uncompromised draft.

Well after all the disappointment of the GF and bad news yesterday, this is just the good news tonic we needed.

Fast and exciting, creative and a goal-kicker. Can't wait to see him, Jack Steven, Monty and, if X can get it back on, tear other sides apart with pace, flair and guts.

Bloody good news!

He seems to run a bit faster and kick a bit further than Luke Ball.

With no disrespect to Ball... pound for pound, if supporters can't see the positives here, then...
