Luke Ball - The Age vs The Sun
Two conflicting articles in the two melbourne papers regarding Ball's future...
The Sun is more positive, stating that Ball wants to stay, but is being wooed by Essendon with the talk of more game time. But it mentions how strong his passion is for the saints...
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/s ... 5782695035
The Age says Ball will leave for the Pies... who then wouldnt be able to consolidate us...
http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/rfnews ... 08387.html
All i can say is, besides hoping he stays, we better not lose him for nothing in the PSD which is also talked about in the Age article...

"He performed well in the grand final, gaining more than 20 disposals in less than 50 per cent of ground time - a ratio that coach Ross Lyon acknowledged might have been insufficient on the day"
I thought Ross acknowledged that due to a misunderstanding, Luke didn't get out there enough and he probably would have played him for two more bursts of 6 minutes?

Please don't try to add factual information to a fluff media piece SainterK. What were you thinking?SainterK wrote:"He performed well in the grand final, gaining more than 20 disposals in less than 50 per cent of ground time - a ratio that coach Ross Lyon acknowledged might have been insufficient on the day"

The future of St Kilda's Luke Ball remains up in the air despite having a three-year contract offer on the table.
Ball has had offers from Essendon and Port Adelaide, with Collingwood today expected to show interest. Ball has refused to entertain Port as an alternative, and has indicated that the Bombers are not his favourite option.
Essendon, which has made Port's Shaun Burgoyne its top priority, is also keen to lure the out-of-contract Ball, while St Kilda would entertain a trade with the Bombers involving midfielder Andrew Lovett.
In another scenario, Ball's management may make an approach to Collingwood, which could be tempted to offer Fraser to the Saints in return. It is understood Ball is contemplating a future away from Moorabbin for less money but better opportunities after being dropped to the VFL for a month this season.

Interesting that The Saints have offered Luke a 3 yr contract. I'm wondering if the contract states that he's to receive limited game time. It doesn't make sense does it? And why would St.Kilda be interested in a hack like Fraser. Some journo's are just love dreaming this shite up!
Another opportunity awaits!
Wouldn't call Fraser a hack..... and we will be short a ruckman in a couple of years once Gardy/King give it away......Moccha wrote:Interesting that The Saints have offered Luke a 3 yr contract. “Yeah….nah””
You're probably right (re Fraser as a ruckman).....
However, if the Ball rumour (to pies) is true, as well as Jolly to the pies from Sydney, then perhaps a 3-way with Port could be on the cards.....
Pies get: Ball
Saints get: Burgoyne
Port get: pick 16 (Saints), Fraser
-----------------
Except that reports have it that Burgoyne wants the Hawks or bust....

Burgoyne is bust on the Hawks, they wont deal and after the Johnathan Hay and Ryan O'Keefe fiascos no-one trusts them.Richter wrote:You're probably right (re Fraser as a ruckman).....

I would hate to lose Luke, but if he decides to go, I would love this deal because the real front runner for Burgoyne is Essendon offering up Lovett.
It could be a better deal for Port Adelaide who are looking for a Lade replacement.

He is 202 cm turns 28 in January.
He was no 1 draft pick in 1999 but has only gathered 31 brownlow votes, kicked 151 goals from 191 games.
Not exactly hot for a number 1 pick.
His 2 x 3 votes this year came against Melbourne Rnd 2 and Essendon Rnd 14.
Gardiner and King both have 30 brownlow votes.
Gardiner was No1 pick in 1996 and King a compensatory No 3 early pick at the 1995 crop.
Both drafts were compromised by Port Adelaide and Fremantle zones.
I think McEvoy and Stanley should be our backup rucks until King and Gardiner are done.
They have both shown potential.
Stanley could be a great mobile ruckman and McEvoy could develop into more solid ruckman.

The Age is a sponsor of the St Kilda football club.
The Herald Sun and The Australian are News Ltd papers in opposition to The Age.
If St Kilda were giving out leaks they would leak to The Age.
If Ball were leaking he would probably leak to News Ltd.
Ball's management could leak in many directions even with conflicting leaks.
On the other hand if no-one were leaking it would be merely opposition clubs using the media to suggest possible outcomes to St Kilda without revealing their interest.
I hope I have clarified the situation.

Ball wants more game time, as much money and to play in a premiership.
Realisitcally that leaves him with only
Geelong - he wouldn't get any game time
St Kilda - not enough game time
Bulldogs - ?
Collingwood - ?
Adelaide - ?
Hawthorn - ?
Essendon, Port Adelaide are not likely premiership contenders so he would stay at St Kilda if he could.

Are you seriously comparing which draft pick Fraser, King and Gardiner were? Haven't you seen enough of them by now to be able to compare them on football ability, rather than on some abitrary measure of how highly they were rated in the year they turned 18?ace wrote:I don't fancy Josh Fraser at St Kilda.

So we're now critiquing our potential recruits on the amount of brownlow votes they have received in their career?ace wrote:

I'm not suggesting we should go for Fraser either, but I can come up with better reasons than the amount of brownlow votes he has received.
Corey Enright must be a dud b/c he didn't receive any brownlow votes this year.

Jolly has recently employed Paul Connors as his agent.
Connors also represents Ball and Maguire.
The information in The Oz article includes the only information regarding Maguire being offered a contract.
Denham's source is almost certainly Connors, who has no problem fighting his battles in public.
The article indicates Essendon and Port Adelaide as not being "preferred destinations". There is no indication of Ball's destination.
I think Connors has told Denham Ball wants to stay at St Kilda, but this isn't newsworthy, so Denham has left that out of his story.
