Only talking about at the right price Red...which would be nothing too expensive in terms of draft or players.

Heyne is well behind Lynch in terms of...

Develoment, Size, Ability.....

Heyne did kick 5 in one game, and played well on the ball in another......Lynch was Sandy's best a few times, and was good othertimes and played a very important role in the set up - he also kicked 25 goals on the season......Heyne was a fringe performer

I like the idea of Nath Brown if he passes the medical.

He would come very cheap, and if medical is passed, he should be able to play the role given to him well. It is harsh to mark him on the second half to the year as he played in one of the bottom sides and under duress through injury. Before that, he was averaging nearly 3 goals a game and taking a good defender.

The role we are seeking is EXACTLY the role which he plays. And if Lynch proves himself next year, then there is nothing to say he wouldnt be played above Brown... Many people are concerned that getting one player would mean that one of our youngsters miss out - not true at all - they can very easily force their way into the team if they want. Ross has proven this with his selection policy.

And there is no doubting we would get brown for very cheap - fourth round would be the most expensive price, and likely a pick we wouldnt use anyway... Best case scenario, we pick him up like King, or in the PSD

Lets not forget that our list is more than adequate

Lets not forget that the AFL has draft system does not give St Kilda any decent access to quality youth for 4 years.
Our access this year is equivalent to picks 24, 48 and 72 in a normal year.
Next year our first pick will be equivalent to mid 30s.
The next two years will be equally as poor.

Please lets ignore the second rate youth.
Lets trade our way to a few premierships then bottom out, whilst Gold Coast and West Sydney compete to go back to back to back with the first class youth being delivered to them by the AFL.

Clubs have 2 choices
They can "remain competitve" but never get the early draft picks to win a premiership.
This is preferred by arrogant egotists dressed in suits and ties who want media attention = Ego McGuire, Kevin Shitty etc.
OR
They can calmly bottom out, absorb the insults about tanking, then ram those insults back down the egotists throats by winning premierships later.

Why trade for garbage?

He could not get a kick this year.

Averaged 17.85 touches per game (played 13 games) and kicked 16 goals. Still a very skilful player off both sides of his body, and can snag a goal from anywhere. I don't see the harm in taking a punt...

More important what's his forward pressure like.

He's technically quite a good tackler. Having said that, he doesn't tackle anywhere near often enough for our style of play... Then again, Schneider and Milne never used to really have much forward pressure either. It is something that can be taught and developed...

Not exactly as NB is lazy forward pressure wise and he wold need to lift his game markedly here. His tackle count is low for example...and lacks chasing and harrying...

also ideally IMO we actually need a true mid rather than another small who can also bea marking target.

But if VERY cheap as in effectively free (ie swapped for a pick we would not use anyway) then may be worth a go.

I thought about it after the grand final and thought why not.

Pro's: Cheap, Good finisher, went ok in a poor richmond outfit, Put pressure on Milne, Schneids to perform.

Cons: Could totally bum out, take a spot on the list for a youngster (thats 12 months of development).

If the price is right... I'd be mighty tempted.

I think we are talking about Nathan G Brown originally drafted by Footscray in the 1996 National draft at pick 10 then traded to Richmond in 2003 for picks 6 and 20 and recently told he will be delisted by Richmond.
Was All Australian in 2001 & 2002, 52 brownlow votes.

Spot on Brat. With a few players possibly heading into the PSD if trade's cannot be worked out. Brown wouldn't be on too many others sights. Like i said, ''if the price was right'' and that price super low  .

In the past I've been against trading away picks, especially low for players. Though if we were to let go of our last pick in the 70+ range, and used a PSD pick for Brown, I would support this move.

I think we have enough depth and youngster in Lynch, Armo, Steven, Geary to put pressure on those in our 22, to give Brown a crack. Considering this draft is said to be less impressive than resecent years, I think the Brown option is a smart option if we went for it.

Nope, must be at the club for a minimum of 10 years or so. Baker and Hayes are our closest by memory.

Interesting, but I think he would be worth the punt.

And let's not forget he has a long-term friendship with Roo - certainly can't hurt his chances.

How did he go at towards the end of the season? Looking at the stats he looked to have a poor season but he did have several injuries.

Yes Hayes and Baker, No Brown, 10 years at the club and must turn 30 by 30 September 2010.
Hayes and Baker both qualify so only half their salary will count against the cap.

Agree.

Personally I think it smacks of a little desperation which is why I don't think this rumour has legs. Why would we not continue along the same line of development and improvement as opposed to looking for a quick fix? Which is exactly what Nathan Brown is IMO.

He's a shadow of his former self, his body is failing him, he's lazy and he's possibly only after one last pay cheque.

Regardless of how cheap he is, no for me. We need footballers who are hungry for success, I've never seen Nathan Brown as having that mentality.

Richmond started tanking early, they refused to play their older players, instead putting games into youngsters.
When this happens the older players also take an involuntary pay cut as they don't get match payments.

They have now forced
Kane Johnson
Joel Bowden
Mark Coughlan
Nathan G Brown
Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
all into involuntary retirement.

The stats wont tell you anything, they didn't get to play.
