Anyone know how long our sponsorship with ISC runs?

Post: # 839775Post Beej »

When it's done we may be in danger of getting some decent training gear for once.

Piping Hot, Skins, ISC... they've got to be the worst trio of apparel brands in all of sport.

Surely Nike or Adidas will come calling soon...

...but knowing our luck we'll end up with Slazenger, Pony or LA Gear.

Also, anyone know when next season's range is released? saintbrat's usually on the ball with these things...

Skins make good gear. Plus, they pay and supply.

Personally, I'm a big fan of asics.

Always thought that the Puma King gear of the late 90's was the best.

Skins make a quality base-layer, but not so much training gear.

Piping Hot was strange. It was as if one of their directors noticed we were in need of a sponsor and said, "yeah, we'll give it a shot". I'm half surprised we didn't train in wet-suits and play in board shorts.

The Puma gear was quality. I was fond of this black Puma King jumper I bought in high-school soon after I saw Robert Harvey wearing one.

Carlton's sponsored by Nike now and their training gear is quality.

What makes gear "quality"?

Design? Isn't it all sweatshop labour finding ways to join polyester together?

How do you youngsters define quality? Are you seduced by a swoosh or stripes or is there substance to the brand allegiances?

I have several piping hot/skins/isc things (mainly kids sizes) and they are rather underwhelming. But I'm not convinced the bigger names are better.

Reebok would be good. All the Tiges/power/kangaroo stuff is always on sale in Alexandria. I keep ringing ISC to find out when they have their sale and they keep telling me they don't sell the public.

I liked the Puma shorts I've got - they were quality (and by that I mean the material didn't fray, stood the test of time, good quality material).

I loved the old Canterbury rugby jumpers which I got around 1997... still wear them.

Skins... well, one of the shirts I had barely lasted 6 months. The material didn't seem as good quality.

But who ever out sponsor is, I'll wear anything with red black and white, with the words St. Kilda on them...

I'm not really too sure what the problem with ISC is. Their apparel is fine IMO.

Plus I'm sure they are pretty happy with their sponsorship deals. Their two AFL teams made the AFL Grand Final, and one of their NRL teams (Parra) made the NRL Grand Final. Good on them.

Quality for me is the fabric, the design and the range.

I prefer my gear simple. Nothing too extravagant. No random buttons, no random pockets, no big logos, no flash artwork or huge lettering. Just your classic simple look.

Red, white and black with a small logo.

These were good by ISC

The hoodies the players were wearing this season were cool too

wanted to get a pair of these shorts but were told they were "player issue only"

With the ISC jackets though, they're a little rough around the edges. For example, the elastic on the rib-knit waist is a bit too loose and it kinda just hangs there.

Hard to explain but you just don't get that snug feel that you would if it were stitched in a Nike factory by a 7 year old Nicaraguan boy.

From memory, the Piping hot years were done in a way that the club made most of the money off the whole range.

Was a much better deal at the time.

Sounds like a lot of wank to me.

Ask Tommy Hafey what he wears to make him so fit

I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

Saw him Friday in Acland St, St Kilda - he was wearing some crummy looking shorts.
I thought that must cold.

OLB, I totally agree about the elastic issue. I have a really lovely designed sweatshirt (long sleeved, kinda fluffy material; got it Grand Final week) and it is PERFECT except for the elastic. It does kinda hang there.

The Piping Hot and Skins gear was made by Sekem - it was only sponsored by those two companies. Same deal with the Bulldogs and Diadora. There were a few years where all of the merchandise designs were identical but the clubs had different clothing sponsors.
