Was great to go and be reminded that underneath the armour, the colours, the rhetoric and the bravado there are thousands and thousands like the 3 generations of my family that attended together that were proud and hurt and sore and sorry and angry and hopeful.
Bummer having kick to kick on the 'boards' with the kids then reduced by the Etihad gestapo to handball to handball.
Great to see Sainters bobbing up all over town in our colours.
Of all the days, today has been the most emotional, it's a sad day as life/work goes on again how I hoped like hell it would not.
Well done Saints fans - love that spirit. Go Saints!

Gee thanks Bratty!! Was hopin most ppl would have missed that in the paper this morning!! Was I the only bloke looking devastated at yesterday's very well run, and actually uplifting family day???
I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

I am ashamed to admit that I was too devastated to go.
Simply could not bring myself to do it.
Of course, I now completely regret being such a sook.
I am extremely glad, though, that so many are made of sterner stuff than I.
Well done to all who attended. Exceptional effort.

so glad I went in the end. was feeling pretty sorry for myself after drowning my sorrows all night but didn't want to miss it.
Like someone else said, I couldnt hold the tears in anymore when max announced his retirement.
god it still hurts so much.
thought the players spoke really well and was great they spoke to fans and signed things for a bit after, considering most of them left the after party function around 4am (I was there).

I'm SO glad I went TOO! I met up with so many of my dear pals...Snoopygirl, Matrixcutter, Vietnamsaint, Joffaboy, Starsign, and of course the "social secretary" Michael!!!! among so many others. It should have been a sombre occasion but I detected a sense of purpose among the faithful to go to the well again and try for the big one next year!!!
Good on you all!!!!! Your blood's worth bottling!!!!!!!!!
Love to all
Dave

Question for those who were close enough to the players for autographs etc- how did they really seem- such sadness on stage
but they stayed for quite a while ...

Gilbert is the nicest bloke ever...Almost gave me his jacket, but decided against it saying "It's just too cold, any other day i would". He seemed alright, was smiling.saintbrat wrote:Question for those who were close enough to the players for autographs etc- how did they really seem- such sadness on stage

Gram was visably shattered. I spoke to him for about a minute, congratulated him on his game and asked him if he knew he tied with chappy for the norm smith. "Yeah i saw that this morning, doesn't mean anything, a win would of been nice though". Seemed to be struggling to hold it in.
Armitage didn't seemed fussed about the loss at all, most likely as he didn't play. He was laughing and joking.

I don't know Armitage but I'd be surprised if any player at the club and particularly those who've been in the mix this year would not be affected by the loss.
While the prevailing mood yesterday was low there were still folk laughing and joking despite everything, some people cope and react differently to others.
To suggest Armo wasn't fussed about the loss might be pushing it a bit.

I think in particular they took comfort from the younger kids who were just excited about being close to them.
Before they started signing autographs though, they all walked past shaking hands with people. A number of them took a strong hold as if they were just trying to hold it together. No words were necessary...

Don't worry, you weren't the only one, I think most people were like that. My mum was the one who had a closeup on channel ten news wiping away the tears!yipper wrote:Gee thanks Bratty!! Nope, brat took a pic of my son and me which I'm not going to post here, but was equally as downbeat.yipper wrote:Gee thanks Bratty!!
