Kosi
I am so sick of the forum picking on players that clearly aren't touted as superstars. So let's talk about a player who won the Rising Star in his first year at CHB.
Has he been a Roughead, Franklin, Brown, Riewoldt, Fisher, Gilbert, Loewe, Gehrig, Fisher, Hamill, Tredrea, Lynch, Pavlich, Richardson? Have I left anyone out?
Just curious about what people think.

Love the bloke, vital to our stucture. Competes and if he doesn't mark the ball then our other forwards know the ball will spill after he crashes the pack. Not in the mould of an Ablett or Dunstall who will kick multiple goals regardless of the match type. Come finals time he will be up against the best full backs in the League so we can only hope he competes, breaks even and offers those contests I mentioned earlier.
A third dangerous medium tall forward would help him no end.

kosi was fine. no issue with him at all. was a wet day. always difficult for him. and he competed.
the culprits were clearly the 3 small forwards. wet day. they needed to do something. just a goal or 2 each and we win.... they werent even crmbing. can anyone remember once when we had a small forward crumbing under a pack????

The only crumbers in our fwd 50 were Geelong defenders. As opposed to Chapman and co.Con Gorozidis wrote:kosi was fine. no issue with him at all. was a wet day. always difficult for him. and he competed.

I think here is where our structure can sometimes fall down a touch. The little forwards are sometimes so concerned with locking up the defensive side of goal when we are in attack that they get caught out when the ball is bombed in. A little bit in two minds. Conscious of blocking/slowing rebound at the expense of running forward of or alongside the contest. With a wet pill, there's not much scope for front and square, everything's over the back, but our guys aren't there because that's not the system. This, perhaps, is where the mobile third mid-sized/tallish forward may be crucial. An extra specialist who canh perform both functions, but release a crumber?Con Gorozidis wrote:kosi was fine. no issue with him at all. was a wet day. always difficult for him. and he competed.

Must remember with the smalls yesterday that the fact was Milne had 3 scoring opportunities and didn't take any. Schneider had five for 2.3. The opportunities were there, but weren't taken. They get three of the six they muffed and we ain't bemoaning them, we're celebrating them...Fine line sometimes...
As for Kosi, conditions didn't suit at all, but he smash and bashed and worked his arse off as he has done for most of the year and particularly up to Rd 16. Kosi ain't no scapegoat. He's a vital player who's just come off his best year in a long time.
And there's only one Fevola. No other FF comes close to his talent. Kosi, though, is next in line. And given Fev is a destabilising bucket of s*** of a human being, I'd take the Kos any day.

Thats if he's not pissed in some dingy alley way. Plus he may kick more goals but would he chase and compete and do the team things??? Would he sook every time they went to Roo insted of him??? Would he make Milne and Scheider stand out on the boundary line so they wouldn't get in his space????#1GILL wrote:Fev in the same position would kick an extra 30 goals
Fevola is a virus and a plague on this earth he deserves carlton and they deserve him
99 goals for a side which didn't finish in the 8 last year. He is a sainter at heart. The boys need to be firm with him, and let him know what will happen if he f**** up, with a strong leadership group such as ours, they can whip him into shape. How many people didn't want Gardiner at the club because of his past? Well he comes to St Kilda, everyone is very clear about what they want/expect from him, and not on stuff up from the big man. Who says Fev will be differentBringBackMadDog wrote:Thats if he's not pissed in some dingy alley way. Plus he may kick more goals but would he chase and compete and do the team things??? He will take so much pressure off Roo, do you think Roo would of had 3 on him all day on Saturday if Fev was the other big player in the fwd line?

IF Carlton wanted to get rid of Fev he would've left brown paper bag land over a year ago.#1GILL wrote:99 goals for a side which didn't finish in the 8 last year. He is a sainter at heart. They turn a blind eye to his alcoholism, so why should that change now?
Back on topic, Kosi is a required player, not a superstar, but when firing is electric.
He is continually improving though, his 09 was a real step forward from 08. In every single statistic, he has improved. Most importantly he kicked 47 goals this year, compared to last years 30. I expect that next year will be better again, as Roo and Kosi have put together a good amount of games together in the forward line now.
I agree with the other poster as well, it's going to be a challenge in the finals. The last two weeks Kosi has played on Brian Lake and Matthew Scarlett, hardly opponents to be sneezed at.
As far as our smaller forward line on the weekend, I am 100% sure that heart and endeavour were there. It's just the somewhat eratic shots at goal, which though they probably had more space and time, were just a result of nervous energy.
I read the other day that we were the 4th highest scoring team in the comp this year (?) if this is correct, coupled with our defensive efforts....I really doubt Ross is going to have any impulsive knee jerk reactions to a team who's entire losing margin for the year was 19 points.

Nobody would be feeling worse than these guys ..... knowing what could have happened if the had got at least 50% of the shots.
Why is it some days it just happens and others they cant buy a goal ?
Answers someone ???

the challenge now is to be the highest scoring team in the competition WHILE maintaining the fierce defensive pressure that made us a feared and respected opponent throughout 2009.SainterK wrote:I read the other day that we were the 4th highest scoring team in the comp this year (?) if this is correct, coupled with our defensive efforts....I really doubt Ross is going to have any impulsive knee jerk reactions to a team who's entire losing margin for the year was 19 points.
even that wouldn't necessarily guarantee you a premiership, but it would help.
Exactly right....I am sure that will be the focus over summer. A team ranked #1 in both aspects, that would be something to fear.bigcarl wrote:the challenge now is to be the highest scoring team in the competition WHILE maintaining the fierce defensive pressure that made us a feared and respected opponent throughout 2009.SainterK wrote:I read the other day that we were the 4th highest scoring team in the comp this year (?) if this is correct, coupled with our defensive efforts....I really doubt Ross is going to have any impulsive knee jerk reactions to a team who's entire losing margin for the year was 19 points.

they take those chances we win. just got a bit frustrating at stages where the ball came down from a pack and they mopped up every time.

Maybe give it just a bit of a rest?

My view is Kosi should give his all for the club, just like his captain does.
I don't expect him to be as good as Roo, because nobody is.
I do however expect him to give all he's got, especially in a Grand Final.
He just didn't get to enough contests and those he did get to, he was ineffective.
For us to win a premiership we need Kosi firing. Don't tell me it was wet, he hurt his hand in round 16, that he's been injured for years, etc... All these excuses are rubbish.
He won the rising star award in his first year. What's he done since?
Had a reasonably good year, but failed when it counted.
That's my opinion.
