Cold Comfort
I am very dissapointed but would like to make a couple of points.
1) Congrats on the 5000+ who dragged their sorry arses to Etihad today.
Probably none of us wanted to be there but everyone wore their colours with pride and gave the player great support.
2) Yeah we lost. But I couldn't be prouder of the boys and their effort.
Left everything out there. It was not to be and that is hard to swallow.
3) Geelong Supporters. Every one I spoke to last night was gracious and not at all spiteful and very gracious. It is easy to be overexcited when you win the flag - but to be a good winner is just as important as being a good loser.
Kudo's to thos Geelong supporters.
4) Saints fans. Loud.Passionate. Shattered. The ones I saw were all good losers and took it on the chin. Thats it Sainters. We need to suck it up and take this loss like adults.
5) As a famous SS poster said to me today - We are beaten but unbowed.
Beaten but unbowed. Remember this as you get s.hit from bandwagoners and the typical fools who dont understand football or dont go to games and who would love their s.hitful teams to come within cooee of the Saints or Cats as a skillful incredibly hard at it football team playing with courage.
Finally to the SS posters who come together in a common goal - with people like Loris and Helen from WA (and Rog of course) Matrixcutter who has driven over three times in a month from SA - Vietnam_Saint who made it down from his lair in SE Asia - my mates Cowboy18 from Sydney - choppa from Perth and the others from far and wide great to see you all and experience the GF with you all.
And to Saints66au who stood with me from 8.30 in the morning until the end of the game - thanks for your efforts over the finals and for the Morrabbin Wing - thanks Mick - much appreciated. Thanks for minding my spot Snoops while i went to the pub yesterday
Beaten but unbowed.
We saddle up for 2010 and redemption.
IF ANYONE - ANYONE thinks this club and this team and this group of supporters are going to slink off into the distance and sook about yesterday - well think again.
This competition should know that we are ON THE RISE. We have not reach our potential yet.
You think Geelong had a steely resolve after 2008? YOU aint seen farking nothing..............................

Absolutely.
The whole 22 - even the one's whose skills left them at crucial times - busted their arses for their jumper and their people. Each and every one bled blue.
Personally, I couldn't give a flying root about Geelong supporters though.
As far as I am concerned the headlines for today should have all been some kind of play on 'Cat Burglary'.
But that's sport, right?
The result will burn at me forever.
But I remain unbowed, and - as in 65 - perhaps St K simply has to lose one to win one.
We will fight and fight and fight and fight and fight and eventually we will get our reward.
2010 starts now.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Great post big fella.Great to catch up before the game and I like you are proud of the St.Kilda supporters yesterday...excepting myself...unfortunately just kept drinking from the pub and cracked the sads bigtime afterwards...had my guardian angels with me tho and my beautiful daughter Cassie suggested that I won the tickets for that reason...to keep me safe after the game.
Love the beaten but unbowed ...sums it up...love all you guys and this club...
This traumatic day willmake our ultimate success all the sweeter...
For the first time since the loss...GO YOU MIGHTY SAINTERS!!!

Great post.
I have been down in the dumps all day and really struggling. For me the worst part was feeling like we won the game in every category other than the scoreboard. Right now it also seems like it is going to take such a large effort again to get back there. But that's footy I guess and I am sure it felt like that for the Cats a year ago too.
Not sure what to do with myself in what will be a long pre-season, and possibly a long year too. Only waiting for finals 2010. I wish I could think I could invest less emotional energy next year....I am exhausted, but I know it will all roll around again, and I will be just as invested again.
But the OP is right, this will burn for the players, they were so close, yet so far. The feeling for me is devastation mixed with pride.
I have defended them all day, had some cruel opposition side mates getting stuck into me.
Thanks goodness for this place. All you guys make it a little easier, to be able to share it all with such a great group of people makes me realise why I love this club so much. Time will heal some of the wounds, but only a premiership will make the scars go away.
I guess it really is Fortius Quo Fidelius time for the supporters and players alike.

well said JB and thanks for the nice words...whilst the view was great and the day an experience....I reckon I can safely say we'd all be very happy with seats the next time (2010!!) we make the big dance!
Tomorrow will be a tough day for everyone as most of us return to work.
I'm pretty lucky. My workplace is pretty much Cat-free but there are the usual clowns who prey on the dissapointment of others to be able to stick the knife in. Unfortunately one of them at my work is my boss, a Hawks "fan" who never goes to games and didnt even turn the GF on TV last year til he knew they were going to win. Hasnt stopped him giving me the total shytes over the last 20 years gloating every time the Saints have a loss..or worse in the very dark days predicting with great glee the demise of our Club. The sort of guy who picked on the disabled or fat kids at school Im sure.
Will hold the head high tomorrow though, and your words will help JB. Gotta be proud of our Club every single day, even when things are as tough as they will be tomorrow. Shows far greather strength of character than those who mock when others are dissapointed.

Just kidding. I hear you're a follower of the team with the jumpers that look like they're from an old prison movie. I reckon welcome aboard. Since you are into researching old Saintsational threads, might I suggest you do a search under the words 'toothbrush', and also 'wheelbarrow'... There's also a thread by our esteemed Redeemer on the topic of 'what people do'. You could tell us all about your life on the high seas as a fisherman... whoops sorry, wrong occupation..., I was thinking of trawling.

PS: I recall your club and all time great, Gordon 'Nuts' Coventry. Absolute champion player... but I was better.

How does someone have the time or patience to sign up on a opposition fan forum and look through the threads and find this thread from 2009?

Re: Cold Comfort
It's no surprise to see Collingwood supporters troll sites, it defines the type of people they are and why they are so disliked by just about everyone involved with sport.
Of course the club has good people but it has been inundated by these socially inept types. Collingwood seems to be a magnet for them.
The only respite Victoria would have is that the club is moved interstate and they follow. I'm sure the dept of Vic human services would be relieved.

Hope they get knocked out week one. Will enjoy the rest of the finals then.
Find 9 out of 10 Filth supporters extremely simple. Sort of like Ruprect from the movie Dirty Rotten Scoundrals.
