Do you support Grand Final replays or extra time?
There was a real and likely prospect of draw yesterday.
Question is, should the money-hungry grubby AFL actually consider doing what every other sport does to decide a dead lock in a grand final do - and play extra time?
Or, should they stick with the Grand Final replay rule, to rape in millions of extra dollars at the expense of battered player bodies?

I think the AFL Players Association need to decide on that one.
In this era of litigation and lawsuits, the players need to be confident that their bodies can hold up. It'a a lot to ask of the players. If yesterday went to extra time, I reckon more than half the players wouldn't have been able to lift their legs.

Brilliant, left field idea!johnc19690 wrote:I think in the event of a draw the team with the best home and away record should be awarded the Premiership
I like it a lot of two fronts:
(1) Extra time is also not ideal due to player tiredness
(2) Gives a legit reward for finishing first over second, that currently doesn't exist under our finals system.
i support both...
for the orginial or first GF, if it is tied at the end, 10 mins extra time each half (no time on). if it is still tied then replay.
for the second GF, if it is tied at the end, 10 mins extra time each half and if it is still locked together, then the 18 players on the ground each take a shot at goal from the top of the 50 and the highest score wins.
pretty original;)

Just looking forward to us having a real crack each week, and appreciating the younger talent coming through.
Don't like the idea of a GF replay.
What happens if a few players who were injured for the original game were now fit and firing for the replay?
Or if a player copped an injury during the original game that they could play through but found it impossible to play the replay?
Sort the game out then and there.
5 mins extra time each way and if scores are still tied, then another 5 mins each way.

Yeah the AFL have (surprisingly) buggered this up
I sat through the last few minutes of the 05/06 Grand Finals (Syd v WCE) praying for a draw..because the rematch would turn into the greatest logisitical farce of all time. Imagine the replay, in front of 40,000 MCC and AFL Members, cos none of the Interstate fans could afford/organise to get back for the replay....and none of the Melbourne public would care lol
Two Melbourne sides? Worse. Having 5 days to reallocate all the tickets again....a job that takes most of the regular H&A season one way or another..the only upside is that the fans would have far more tickets to a replay cos the corporates wouldnt be able to get theur act together in time
There will be one more replayed GF...and the resulting chaos will ensure its the last.

We could have a 30 round season.
Each team plays each other twice. No NAB Cup or Finals.
That's what EPL does. (Apart from the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, European Cup and all the other comps)
Just being cheeky, I love the Finals and the GF and it makes players legends.
Imagine going in to Round 22 knowing that we have won the Premiership. At least all Saints supporters would have got in to the Melbourne game!!

Don't worry Mike, a drawn GF hasn't happend for 32 years, so the AFL can just find their big sand pit and deal with it the way they deal with everything else
