I'm not saying they would either, hence my last comment on 'footy does not work that way'. A few years back, under Pagan, he actually tried to move on to us and that was the time it would have been good but doing the deal was the stumbling block and it stopped there.older saint wrote:Kosi is younger, more versitile, and more stable would never do it.SuperSaint wrote:We know Fev's dad and Brendan is a big kid at heart who has been a huge Saints Fan all his life. Ryan O'Keefe is a hard running type forward.OLB wrote:Tom Lynch is seen as a hard-running Ryan O'Keefe-type.
I believe in developing our own.
We continue to develop youth and the future is always bright.
Tom Lynch is not, he is a potential hard running type forward only.

You forgot Allen who sadly has already announced his retirement.cwrcyn wrote:
Our delistings are likely to be:
Hudghton

Connors
The Irishman
Hudghton will retire.
(Hayes and Baker will become veterans outside the 38 player senior list)
Leigh Fisher is only there for depth and so deep that if he is required we are not going to be finals contenders - may as well be cut.
Connors has shown nothing in two years, one of which he was injured - his best outcome would be to be cut and then rookied like Howard was.
Begley is very tenuous but he could easily be cut and he is now too old to be rookied.
That's 5 delistings
Assuming Dawson and Miles are permanently promoted to the 38 player senior list that leaves 4 vacancies.
Howard should be dropped from the rookie list - he failed his last chance miserably.
Haretuku should be dropped he is going nowhere.
That clears Blake Mc Grath, Josh Duncan and Ted Widner to occupy the 3 former NSW scholarship rookie places.

We have him already, his name is Brendan Goddard and he could be at least as good up forward as S Johnson. I'd have had him in Aaron Hamill's spot as soon as Hamill started missing games and he'd be like our James Hird by now, but for some inexplicable reason they refuse to play him up there much. Get someone who can run the lines and dispose of the ball well (offer Aaron Davey whatever he wants and Melb whatever it takes) and stick BJ permanently up forward. Problem solved.3rd generation saint wrote:Trade Kosi and Milne, well you've just traded away 90+ goals from the side, pretty hard to replace.
We do need a third medium sized forward though, like a Steve Johnson who will make it harder for teams to double up on Roo and Kosi.

BJ would be great up forward as shown once or twice this year. BJ is also great off HB or in the middle. Would love a few of him.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:We have him already, his name is Brendan Goddard and he could be at least as good up forward as S Johnson. BG is certainly worth a punt. Not a bad suggestion. Hopefully, Stevens or Armitage can step up and fill a midfield psition to allow him to pay more as a forward. BG has "Buckley-like" ball skills and would prove to be deadly in front of goals. We arer desperate for a class finisher like Chapman is to Geelong.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:We have him already, his name is Brendan Goddard and he could be at least as good up forward as S Johnson. All looks very accurate! Cant see many of those players listed avoiding the chop. Ross showed last year that he has no time for fringe players who havent got significant upside to our developing kids (see Gardiner, Birss, Fiora etc)
Our NSW schol. players all look good and safe to stay rookied. And no point upgrading any players unnecessarily. Dawson and Miles must be upgraded, but all the others might as well spend another year developing on the cheap whilst we win a flag.
There is NO chance Kosi will go, and Milne im sure will stay.
I think now i feel open to testing the trade waters for players like Goose, the Clarkes (which saddens me to say...) and possibly even Gwilt who may have some currency. But no fishing players if we cant get a good deal, nor if they are desperate to stay. We need experienced players this year - not draftees. If i had my way, we would trade ALL our picks if it meant a premiership next year...
I want to see Armo, Steven, Geary and Lynch prove themselves as best 25 next year and push for 22.
Trade targets should be Andrejs Everitt who is a very good, versatile tall. I believe he is out of favor at the Dogs for similar reasons to Armo at the start of this year (second and third year blues - 'it all just happens without me doing anything'. But the talent is there. He could play as that third forward and with his athleticism could fit in well with the 'forward pressure' game plan.
I shakily put forward Nathan G Brown's name - if his off-season surgery is a success, he could be worth punting on. Yes, he would only have 2 years (at best) left in him, but he is what we need, and at worst, would take up a spot on the list which would otherwise be pick 60-odd.
Andrew Lovett i also like - his speed is something we crave, and he could easily be played on the HFF, speedily bringing the ball into the forward line. May cost us a bit though - first pick or player the ilk of Armo...
But if we are going all out to target class (ie. no-one on other list is sacred philosophy), we should target players like Didak, S Johnson, R O'Keefe or M LeCras - but let's be honest - they are all going to be very very hard to get...

Plus, it was his choice in the end to retire - you wont see him in another team's jersey next year.Milton66 wrote:Lloyd is a spud. And past it. Davey on the other hand... there are talks he wants out. From what i have heard, many players were very disgruntled at Dean Bailey after his treatment of Chris Johnson last year when he decided to be traded to the Blues. Now with Brock Mclean leaving and talk that Davey wants out, Melbourne should start worrying...
Regardless of whether he wants out or not, we are in a position to go all out and offer him a spot on a team to finish top of the ladder. Plus, with Maxy's retirement and Hayes and Baker's move to the veteran list in 2010, we should have a bit of salary cap to throw at him...

Was in the herald sun on Friday. Still all speculation, but why not push? We may actually have some room in the cap, which as i said, with Hayes and Baker on the veteran list it means their salaries are counted outside the cap! Surely too, Ball will get a lessened contract than what he is on...plugger66 wrote:We are not going to have any room on the salary cap for a player like Davey and who has said he wants out anyway.Lets go after Chapman or Ablett while we are at it.thirty-seven!? wrote:Plus, it was his choice in the end to retire - you wont see him in another team's jersey next year.Milton66 wrote:Lloyd is a spud. Btw, i'm not talking $1million per year (obviously)... but playing for a team at the top of the ladder must at least count for something too... we'd still be able to pay him something sizeable... its all just guess-work mate

We won 20 games in the year so there will be big pay rises next season for certain players. The fact that Ball will get less and hayes and bakes are on the veterans list allows us to keep the same list but i would doubt there would be a cent left over for other players.

Trades
FFS
If Hawkins goal was called a point and Schneider, Dempster, Milne or Mini kicked one of the gettable shots they missed would we still be looking to trade half the team?
We were an inch away from the flag, load up and go again next year.
