Milne : 11 possessions 3 effective - no goals
Grant Thomas believed that Milne was ineffective on Interstate trips and seriously contemplated resting him when we travelled interstate.
He was also poised to trade him before he was decommissioned.
Ross has given him a second chance.
He has done pretty well during the H&A.
But he has been missing in action in September.
He is a still basically a one trick pony and can't even seem to perform that trick in September.
He has had ample chances.
We need to seriously evaluate if there is a future role for him at this club.

Fair point, from Rd 3 until 3mins to go in the last quarter of the grand final we were the leading team in the comp. We must have done a couple of things right??degruch wrote:Can we at least wait until tomorrow before we delist him and elevate Kenny Whiffen from the rookie list.
I think we are a better team with Milne in it, reagardless of his output.

Someone who can give a real contest, xander wrote:who would u replace him with?
someone who won't go missing at critical times,
someone who can get a better than 30% disposal effectiveness.

Someone else who can kick bags of 11 goals? I think his position in the team, like any older player, will come under scrutiny, but he is still a very dangerous player.Enrico_Misso wrote:Someone who can give a real contest, xander wrote:who would u replace him with?

I agree and so do many media personalities. Boy how I wish we had a Chapman-like forward. I've always felt he is their most damaging player. He killed us today and the Pies the week before.Enrico_Misso wrote:Someone who can give a real contest, xander wrote:who would u replace him with?

I am bleeding to make such comments about Milney as I have always had a soft spot for the little bloke but another finals flop in 2009 has sealed it for me. He has never played well in any final since 2004 and sadly he has had his time. He failed dismally in all 3 finals games and at his stage of his career, in his late 20's, he's not going to get any better.

Yes - difficult.xander wrote:how are we magically going to find an excellent goalsneak?
We just have to try some other options.
It is clear that Milney is NOT the answer in pressure finals games.
No point perservering with him.
I'd offer him as trade bait and try some kids.

If anything this finals series proved is that we cannot play both Schneider and Milne in the same side. Chapman, even with a suspect hammy, is miles better than the two of them put together. Neither Milne or Schneider are strong enough through the body to break a tackle and kick a goal. They also are poor from 45 or more metres out, unlike Chapman. Need to try other options.xander wrote:how are we magically going to find an excellent goalsneak?
well if those 2 can show that they are better forward options then milne then they should definitely be ahead of him. However id prefer to have those 2 in the midfield rotations or on a HFF not in a pocketF_Q_F wrote:If Steven and Armo have a good pre-season then Milnes spot in the team looks shaky.
I don't think its too much to expect of a forward pocket to at least kick something running into an open goal with no pressure on him.

I think that's a better way to look at it (sorry EM)...Milne would need to be reliably replaced, otherwise we have only Schnieder (who was almost as guilty today) to rely on as a small forward. Longer term, Heyne and Choo-Choo could be prospects, but cutting Milne early could be a mistake.F_Q_F wrote:If Steven and Armo have a good pre-season then Milnes spot in the team looks shaky.
Yes he made some errors today..... but ultimately it was the forward line in general who messed up. Crucial misses from Milne, Schneider and McQualter, and next to no contested marks from the Talls.
Yet we so nearly won. Not sure there is really a lot to be made from recrimination threads like this one.
Only player who we missed today who might have made any sort of difference and who may realistically be available to us next year is one Xavier Clarke.

I agree - it's seems simple to me, and I have been a Yapper fan for a long time but the fact of the matter is in Finals he is a major disappointment.
Will get seriously looked at by Ross I would think as to whether he is what they want going forward - remembering we need to IMPROVE to get back to a Grand Final next year.

Please...let's win a Premiership before GEELONG!!!! (O.k., so we've missed that opportunity...maybe let's win the next one before Geelong????)

Yes, he kicked 11 goals ocne... once.
Been a big fan, but he fails in finals. Not through lack of effort. But his body is too small IMO.
Opposition coaches have worked him out, and against the better teams, he struggles.
He's what, 28? Like MAx, the club needs to consider if he fits into their long term plan.
If they decide to keep him, then I'll back them and him 100%.

Really?? Well again I must have been at the wrong Grand Final. Sometimes we need to see the forest from the trees. I have always loved the little fella but footy a the end of the day is a brutal business and he has been a failure in every Finals game since 2004. Chapman has had hammy problems and his last two weeks were match winning performances. I will repeat an earlier comment, Chapman with a suspect hammy was more damaging than Milne and Schneider put together yesterday. Milne's inability to shrug a tackle was again too obvious yesterday and his goalking outide 40 metres is poor.terry smith rules wrote:suggest you check out the second half of the first quarter.
It was Milne who came on then who got the forward line working. He presented, tackled and gave options.
He played 66% of the game and he should not be made a scapegoat.
