Not going on Saturday.
Have been to two Saints GF's.
'71 and '97.
'71 is a bit of a blur as I was only ten. I do remember my dad being really upset in the car on the way home.
'97 I'll never forget. Walking down Brunton Ave after the game was a funeral procession. Bloody devastating.
Come on boys. The lid will never come back down if you win on Saturday.
GOOOOOOOO YOU MIGHTY SAINTERS

Certainly time for another win.
For me 97 was my first. I had organised a ticket for $50 ,, then my missus starts crying when i said i only got one ticket ,, so I snaffled another for $200 ,,, then she gets all upset because I tell her we won't be sitting together. No pleasing some people.
Shoulda walked then ,, but no ,, I on sell those tickets for the cost price and end up in a laneway in Yarraville at 6am Saturday morning buying tickets from a guy in a trenchcoat ,,, tickets had come via west Coast ,,,, $1000 each and we lost the game. Shattered !
After the game as we walked out of the 'G' I handed her the keys to the ute and walked off arriving home 3 days later.
I've never told anyone this before but here goes ,
I am the reason we lost the 97 GF. She was a Geelong Supporter who had been to the 4 losing Grand Finals. And I took her to ours.
relationship didn't last long after that .
Sorry guys
Wow!
You deserve a medal for the trouble you went to!!!!

1997 and 2009 for me!
Re 1997 - a few mates of mine snapped up a couple of the 1,000 odd seats they flogged to the General Public at face value on the day for the top of the Ponsford Stand in the MCC members.....this was the last time the MCC sold some of it's seats to the public.
I'm surprised to not hear from some on here that snapped any of these up on the day, at the ground???

Seen 'em all in one way or another - scratchy video for the old ones and live telecast of 97 - but this will be my first live.
Seriously jumping out of my skin.
Honestly feel like something special is about to happen.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Grand Finals seen
I was at the:-
66 - so I am told - in the top of the northern stand. Unfortunately too young to remember!
71 - remember Barry Lawrence being injured early and limping most of the game. Before interchange (I think), once you went off, you stayed off.
97 - heart breaker. Still trying to get over it. Images of Harves after the game were so sad. In standing room that year. Extra seats released on the day and Adelaide Crows work colleagues ended up with great seats - weren't even members! That was salt in the wound!
09 - standing room but just ecstatic to be there! Time for a Premiership!! PLEASE!

SP - My Mother, brother and I were also at the top of the Ponsford in '97 thanks to the MCC ticket sale, although we did get ours a couple of days earlier and at least we all got to sit together.
My Mother, like her Father, was a long-time St.Kilda supporter and went all the matches, but that was her only GF. They'll both be watching this one, in spirit at least.

97 and going to 2009 Grand Final
97 devastated me I remember going home after the game feeling so drained that I just went to bed.
This year Im convinced will be our year though just thinking about it I get so emotional there will be a lot of emotional Saints supporters when we beat the Cats on Saturday.
