How many Saints Grand Finals have you seen?
This will be my fifth I will watch live at the ground, the others being 1965, 1966, 1971 and 1997.
Certainly time for another win.
Certainly time for another win.

I was too young to take any notice in both 65 and 66,cried as 13 year old in 71 listening on the radio .
Was devasted in 97 watching it on the t.v
Going to my first live grandfinal this Saturday and almost can't imagine how exciting and emotional it is going to be...
Sigh!!!

1971 - also watched Under 19s & Reserves keeping good ol' dad's seat while he hit the bar!
1996 - don't care what anyone says, the Ansett Cup win at Waverley was in some special way GF like at the time
1997 - the real thing and reality bit hard, say no more
2009 - it's bloody time!!

Yeah I've seen four.perfectionist wrote:Ditto.StPeter wrote:This will be my fifth....1965, 1966, 1971 and 1997...
'65, at 15 years of age was disappointed.
'66, at 16 years of age was ecstatic.
'71, at 21 years of age was absolutely devastated.
'97, at 47 years of age was very disappointed.
2009, this is the year that means the most. I'm a grandfather now. I know so many Sainters in their 70s and 80s that think this is their last chance.
We will win this year.
Go Sainters!
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

That's impressive ! Wow ,,,don't reckon you could find too many about to lay claim to that.StPeter wrote:This will be my fifth I will watch live at the ground, the others being 1965, 1966, 1971 and 1997.

For me 97 was my first. I had organised a ticket for $50 ,, then my missus starts crying when i said i only got one ticket ,, so I snaffled another for $200 ,,, then she gets all upset because I tell her we won't be sitting together. No pleasing some people.
Shoulda walked then ,, but no ,, I on sell those tickets for the cost price and end up in a laneway in Yarraville at 6am Saturday morning buying tickets from a guy in a trenchcoat ,,, tickets had come via west Coast ,,,, $1000 each and we lost the game. Shattered !
After the game as we walked out of the 'G' I handed her the keys to the ute and walked off arriving home 3 days later.
I've never told anyone this before but here goes ,
I am the reason we lost the 97 GF. She was a Geelong Supporter who had been to the 4 losing Grand Finals. And I took her to ours.
relationship didn't last long after that .
Sorry guys
What will be next from this club ?

This will be my 4th after attending '66,'71 and '97.
My grandfather took me to the '66 Grand Final and he got to see the Saints win their only GF. I am taking his MCC membership medallions that date back to 1948 to the match as a hopeful "Good Luck Charm" as I know he'll be there in "spirit".
We arrived in Melbourne on the day of the 1965 GF and we might have gone to the match, if I had known anything VFL/AFL on my 1st day in Melbourne as a 14 year old, but I'm glad I missed that one!
