Rod Butterss, president at the time, and Sheldon met for a beer recently, chuckling that it hadn't been a bad idea to throw the Sydney midfield coach into the mix.
If Sheldon hadn't piped up, it might never have happened.
Sheldon, who left the Saints as the board changed over at the end of 2007, did not want to spruik this week.
But it is fact that he was first to prod the others and point them left-field in Lyon's direction.
It is understood several board members had eyes only for the usual suspects on the coaching carousel.
"I was just part of the process. My contribution's minimal,'' Sheldon said.
As for the seemingly varying accounts, I prefer to believe the Chairman Ross Smith, a true Saints legend and clubman.
I also note that the article you are quoting talks of 'the board' and not the Coaching Selection Committee. It may well be that both accounts are actually true?
The Board had their own thoughts on who should be on the short list whereas the Committee (of which Butters was not a member) actually produced the short list.
IIRC Sheldon was not a member of 'the Board'.
I'm interested in most people's pov. It just seems that you haven't posted much this season? I might be wrong, but I don't think so.
All I'm saying is that there are different versions of how it happened and it's up to people to pick the one they like. But just because they like that version won't make it the correct one until the other versions are disproved.
Isn't that exactly what you've done yourself?
No need to have a sook.
All I did was report what Ross Smith stated.
Just because you don't happen to like his version of what took place is no reason to have a go at me over it. Are you that insecure about your position these days that you have to go on 'the attack' when someone posts something that doesn't fit in with your view of things?
I'll give you one tip though.
I'd back his version of events over yours or mine. He at least was there.
You and I are just speculating on what actually happened.
