Will Goddard play as 3rd tall forward
If Kosi or Roo are being held would you play Goddard down there as a 3rd tall

I'd play him down there for some of probably every game, if not semi-permanently, in the role James Hird used to play. I'd give him lisence to roam wherever he saw fit, but to play mainly forward. He'd be much more of a headache to opposition teams if he was getting the majority of his possessions forward of centre, or within goalkicking range every week. We have enough guys who can get it accross half back and in the middle. Very few would dominate up forward like he would. He could be at least as damaging as Stevie J. He would be our "icing on the cake".
After he kicked 4 in 20 mins against West Coast (5 if you include the one he kicked which was later dis-allowed), but was then moved back into the midfield, I've been hoping they were keeping him up their sleeves to play a surprise role forward in the finals. Maybe do a D Jarman in the GF.

Do you reckon the Doggies would be more worried about him doing it across half back, or within scoring distance? Given the fact they're unlikely to have many taller blokes up forward and we'll most likely have Zac, Blake, Gilbert and Fisher (who are all 190cm+) down there, having another 190cm+ guy down there (Goddard) may be a bit too much. They may try to go as quick and mobile as possible in their forward line.

No, that's usually meThePunter wrote:I think considering his record this year against the Doggies across half-back, the coaching staff would be loathe to move him away from there this weekend.
The real issue is - will I cease comment on another thread? Everytime I seem to post, no one posts after me.

Take it as a compliment. It means you've said all there is to sayThePunter wrote:I think considering his record this year against the Doggies across half-back, the coaching staff would be loathe to move him away from there this weekend.

Goddard would kick goals up forward and set them up, like Steve Johnson does. Instead of having them kicked on him, like he did on Friday night.
He could play the role Robert Murphy played so well on Friday night. Being the "lead-up guy". Then he'd be wheeling around and pin-pointing it to Nick or Kosi inside 50. Instead of Nick having to go all the way out there, then not being in the 50. But why kick more goals, when we can kick just the 9?
In finals we have Roo up forward and precious little else. He needs more help. Goddard would give him that.

So you are prepared to change the structute that we have had for 23 out of 24 games that has won us 21 out of those 23 games to have BJ start up forward. Why wouldnt we go with what has worked all year. The Cats are chansing us. We dont need to change a thing.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Goddard would kick goals up forward and set them up, like Steve Johnson does. It doesn't matter what has happened in the previous 1, 2 or 23 games. All that matters is what will work for us THIS WEEK. When did Shane Ellen ever play forward before the 1997 Grand Final, for a quick example off the top of my head?plugger66 wrote:So you are prepared to change the structute that we have had for 23 out of 24 games that has won us 21 out of those 23 games to have BJ start up forward. In the one game BJ spent most of the 1st quarter in our forward line this year, he kicked 4 goals in 20 minutes (against WC- 5 if you include the one that was disallowed).
The simple fact is that we kicked 9 goals on Friday night and had 15 scoring shots. Geelong had 35 scoring shots last night. 35. It's all well and good for most on here to say "Collingwood were rubbish", or words to that effect, but they weren't until Geelong crushed the life out of them. Geelong look to be back and have renewed motivation and passion.
We need more goals, if we want to actually win.

Adelaide were long shots against us and finished 5th that year. We have lost 2 games to 2 poor sides. We dont need to change any structure. just a few other guys need to touch the footy.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:It doesn't matter what has happened in the previous 1, 2 or 23 games. BJ to Roo may well have won us the game against the Dogs.
This is why in the main BJ will play back...and not a permanent forward.
His clerance toMilne is why he will drift frward at times becuase he is a smart player.
BJ is at his best as player who sets up others.
Yes he can finish...but his main value is as a player that can set up play.

Too many of our deliveries inside 50 were just kick and hopes.
Till BJ grabbed it and delivered a couple of precision passes.
That is where he is at his best.
NOT way down back trying to keep up with a leading forward who is too fast for him eg Mitch Hahn's two quick goals on him.

.
And not that the Dogs wayward entries against the Cats were often to Scarlett by himself!!!!
We need the poise of BJ to kick to the advantage of our forwards.
