Areas of Our Game To Focus on this Week

Post: # 824599Post marksnsparks »

1. Kick ins from our defensive goal square. The last 2 games we have struggled not to turn it over from kick ins.

2. First quarter lethargy. We need to find a way to fire from the get go, like Round 14 vs Cats.

Any others?

We need to focus on everything from the first bounce to the final siren.

One of our tall forwards and 2 of our small forwards need to put scoreboard pressure on the other side. Also our ruckmen need to start getting a few kicks around the ground like they were earlier in the season. if all that happens i will be having a celebratory drink in exactly 7 days.

Put some long stops in and stop slipping over ffs. Must have seen us slip 15 times last night.

Relentless Pressure all over the ground needs to be maintained and even improved both Pies and Cats have shown weakness in dealing with this.

Definately the pressure factor is the key to our success we havent been able to replicate our mid season pressure & contested ball heroics but if we can then anything can happen

- Pressure needs to return
- Quicker kick ins are needed
- Lesser passengers than we had last night
- Need to make a statement from the opening bounce
- Did i mention pressure

It took 9 goals to win against the dogs, we will kick however many it takes to beat the cats

Pressure needs to be up and we can't have another nervous start. If we do we could be in trouble. We need to win the contested ball as well.

Geelong keys - Ablett, Enright (rebound 50's), Chapman, Corey (the link), Mackie (don't under estimate).

Taylor is a spud and u need to work him over as he is VERY suspect with the least amount of pressure applied.

Good point on Mackie - he played well against us last time and I think he gets left off the radar a bit....

Chapman is hard to stop.....

We need a 3rd fwd option to stand up - Kosi will have hands full with Scarlett (tough job and needs to take him out of the contests)

We dont want to fall for thr trap of manning up most of their players. We have to play our own game. it is the only way we can beat them. If those guys get the ball we have to limitthe damage than can cause with the ball.

Another key to beating Girlong is put someone on Chappy for the day. He never seems to have an opponent. Makes it easy for them to get out of trouble when he is swanning around doing as he pleases.

or just stop them getting it plugg
if they get 25+ touches each probability says they will be damaging with it eventually
we cannot let them set up play from the back half or run thru

The old cliche "It'll be won in the midfield"

Thought even though Lenny had a blinder we were smacked in the centre against the doggies - I'm wondering whether bringing in another mifielder for Eddy wouldn't give us more options.

We need our small forwards to be ready and waiting at the bottom of packs - so many times on friday, a dropped or spoilt contested mark would equal a quick take away from their defence, often ending in an inside 50...

Milne and Schneids REALLY need to step up! Schneider had some awesome form coming into the finals series, but we havent seen much of it yet - remember that he does owe us a few last quarter goals!

Zac for Stevie Johnston
I've snatched this from another thread but it's an interesting thought both have unconventional styles, they both look unflapable and will try the unconventional to get around opposition. This match up could eventuate. I think Blakes dour style will suit going on Mooney. Mooney's a more predictable forward but has that physical grunt to threaten some.
