IF Dogs Go Small....
Up forward to throw our backline off......have used Welsh down back last week worked well and he may be a handy third tall up for Kosi/Roo....
Interesting....can see why lyons looking at running players......they may even play Akka out of the square to throw our macth ups right off...
They WILL try something....have to.

I thought that was the whole problem with the Dogs forward line, They ARE small.
Unless they bring Everitt in(extemely unlikely) or rest Hudson or Minson down forward at times, the fact is they have no one over 190cm
Welsh and Hahn are the only "talls" they have...
Maybe this is the selection matchup Max is hoping for???

If Scott Welsh plays spare man this week so that Sam Fisher is our spare, we'll win by twenty goals. Alas, the Dogs won't fall for that one. They won't be going small, they ARE small. What they will be trying to figure out is how to get someone who can take a mark onto the forward line. A tricky exercise.

Could very well work in our favour. If, like the 2 games against them already this year, we can slow them down through the middle they will have no get out of jail kick and hope to a tall forward.
All season we have been able to make sides rush kicks into the forward 50, obvioulsy making it much more difficult to spot up a small leading target. Guys like Fisher, Gilbert, Blake and Goddard could have a field day.

I agree totally

Good post I agree - the pressure through the midfield on Gilbee, Eagleton, Harbrowout of defence will be important to what gets put on the chest of their fwds.gosaints wrote:Could very well work in our favour. The reality is the Dogs have ALREADY tried the Minson/Ruck as a fwd excercise against us - it failed. I actually think the trap for the Dogs is to "attempt" to magically conjure a taller fwd options when they simply dont have one as opposed to simply abandoning that and going all out to their strength of small fwds.sunsaint wrote:I thought that was the whole problem with the Dogs forward line, They ARE small.

Yes the Dogs fwds are relatively small (I dont think Hahns that small or Murphy for that matter) but there is no doubt moving Welsh (a supposed fwd) to defence is a shift in approach to find something different for the Dogs up fwd...gonna be interesting and I agree maybe this IS Max's only hope cause I still dont see a match up for Dawson.....Blake to Hahn? Dawson to who? on the other hand I do believe Max could play on a Welsh (if he went there) or Brad Johnson who wont spend all night as a midfielder...he cant they have to score....

The benefit of most of our defenders is that they can play both tall and small and usually do it well bar Zac
Reincarnated looks at Zac and sees him without a position or a place within the team. He plays tall and that is it. He has looked increasingly out of position and his attempts at bumps that turned on the forum earlier in the season have been mis-timed

I think if the Dogs try and find a tall target at this stage - like they have done previously they will play into our hands. they have to do something diferent.perfectionist wrote:If Scott Welsh plays spare man this week so that Sam Fisher is our spare, we'll win by twenty goals. Welsh plays spare man back for them....frees Gilbee possibly up to a wing....and Harbrows dash from defence is super important to them also...

agree that if they go small, they'll have to play really well to beat us as they can't rely on cheap goals with quick kicks into the forward line.
there's been a lot of talk of max for johnson. gilbert was pretty much best on ground with the job he did on johnson in rnd 17. this matchup is a must for us.
i'd like to see eddy, mini or even ball get a negating job on gilbee. make him accountable.

If the Dogs go small - it is because they can't afford viagra
