ROSS Lyon says two places are up for grabs in St Kilda’s team for Friday nights preliminary final against the Bulldogs.
While St Kilda has no injury concerns, Lyon said the Dogs’ pace might force a change to the side that beat Collingwood in the qualifying final.

So who's in the gun???
Ball maybe??
Dawson??
Eddy??
I'd say Max for Dawson will be looked at, based purely on match-ups, not sentiment.
Eddy is a runner, but a speed freak, he ain't.
Ball came in handy for the 'Pies, but maybe the coaches think guys like Hayes, CJ, Joey and McQualter can cover the Dogs in the packs...
Who knows. Smarter people than me are employed to make these decisions, and i certainly don't envy them...

On the HUN website, there is a video interview with RL. Reporter asked about Gards, RL said that the website wasn't updated from last week blamed the media manager who was in the room at the time!!Milton66 wrote:Max and Dempster. I agree with the Ex. Big game experience.
Gardiner could be the obvious... hope we're wrong.
Gards will play
Phew, that's a relief....I was preparing myself for the worst!BringBackMadDog wrote:On the HUN website, there is a video interview with RL. The doggies won't know what's hit em
The way the article reads it would seem to me that Bally's spot is the one in doubt.
I'd hate to see him dropped but I can't think of anyone else who would make way for more run. He won't drop any of the big blokes and you'd think the guys in the backline are safe.
Out of all our mids Bally is probably the worst runner. Geez i hope not.

Last time I check Bally was a runner!! Not sure there are any better running options not in the side currently. You would think that the options to come in are Geary, Armo, Dempster and Max. None of those are better options than Ball. Besides we need his toughness and clearance ability to counter the key to the Doggies, Cross and Boyd. If we control the clearances we win, simple!!gosaints wrote:The way the article reads it would seem to me that Bally's spot is the one in doubt.

Maybe they are re-thinking the need for the two ruckmen??

Mate for the most part I totally agree with you. I will be gutted if Bally got the chop and I agree that Bally is a much better footballer than those not in the side.BringBackMadDog wrote: Last time I check Bally was a runner!! But as a runner, I would think that the coaching staff would have Geary and Dempster ahead of him atleast. I might not agree with it but i'm not at the club every day working with them.
I've heard Ross Lyon say how much he rates Dempster's running and fitness and also Geary's running ability.
On top of that, Bally has been dropped in the past [supposedly] for his ability to run, spread from the contest and create.
I hope it doesn't happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is one of the selection headaches the selection commitee is dealing with.

Agreed. We'll win it by winning the contested footy consistently. If we're worried about pace then sure, bring Eljay in for Kosi. But even doing that won't be enough to make up the disadvantage. On the other hand, if they don't get the ball, then their pace doesn't matter so much - no-one can outrun the speed of a kick.Teflon wrote:Dogs gearing them selves up to win tough contested footy....say they have lost that area to us in past....Ball I wouldve thought would be crucial.

I think Eddy might be the only one who is up for consideration this week, if that at all.
Ball will 100% play this week, he is absolutely crucial in winning contested possessions at the clearances. Heed my word, if the dogs win the clearances, our full-court press, frontal pressure or whatever, will be rendered useless.
Friday night will be won in the middle, and Ball will be instrumental in making that happen.

When Lyon talks "runner" I think he means "run with" players rather than speedsters.
In that case, I would expect Dempster to come in for someone: either Ball or Raph.
Dempster is slow, as is Eddy and having both of them in a team playing the Dogs would be an error IMO.
So I hope I'm totally wrong.
