No, I am not taking youfor a GT lover.saint vince wrote:If you want to play the gae of who recruited who I will start also. I think you are taing me for a GT lover I am just saying that it is impossible to say what would have happened if he had stayed. Same goes for if we had of got another coach you just never know.Milton66 wrote:Mate, once again... I have never denied his legacy. I too think we are better now than when GT left but is that to do with our list developing on, a new board and some young kids or just because RL is in the office.Milton66 wrote:Forget the win/loss/PF argument.saint vince wrote:I am all about the moment so I rekon Ross is the Boss however when GT was there I was pretty happy with him as well.
What I don't understand is the RL love over GT. It is way too early to make the call that he is miles better.
ATM both have made 2 prelims no more no less. In two weeks time we may be saying something different.
If (god forbid) we lose on Friday then we fall off the stage and miss the finals the next three years and RL is sacked how will they compare then.
I think it is a little harsh to say that we now have a real coach and GT wasn't on he still made two prelims with a very youg side.
Who is too say ifhe was in charge atm we would not be in the same position.
My question is...
Is the club in much better shape now in terms of sustainable success than it was uner the previous regime?? The answer has to be YES.
And apart from the support of the board financially, I' say that RL has made the decisions to hire/recruit tec. And he deserves credit.
Never have I seen this club as stable both on and off the field as they are now. Welcome to professionalism, Saints.
It is impossible to say whether we would have been better with or without GT. My argument is that when he was there I was very hapy with what he was doing and I am equally happy with RL.
It is impossible to say wht would have been and every week these threads go on and on and on and the same name calling goes with it and all of this has sweet FA to do with the OP which was about GT talking about losing a final from 5 goals up which he has never done.
GO Saints.
Let's forget your agnst towards me for a second...
20-2 record this year.
Meanest defence in the AFL this year (new assistant coach has played a major role in this). Who rectuied him?? Who recruited SOS??
Amazingly low level of soft tissue injuries. Misson, who recruited him?
Dawson, Ray, Schneider... who recruited them?
Milne, who kept him?
Joey's year. Under whom did he blossom?
Are we a more fitter, well drilled, disciplined team this year? You'd better believe it.
Are we more professional in our approach off field? You bet.
Not because I say so, but because it's fact.
Due to the feud between GT and RB, the status quo was simply untennable and would have ripped the club apart IMO.
They started with the greates of intentions, but it all went pear-shape due to their massive egos.
Everyone knows that GT was a control freak, and given that anyone who disagreed with him seemed to be shown the door (ask Daniher and Burkie), I honestly doubt the club would be better off with him today.
Why? Because GT is human and prone to make kistakes like everyone else. His failure to step away and let the board appoint a professional footy department is an indictment on an otherwise good win/loss ratio.
Finally...
Blues were 5 goals up and lost by (I think) 10 points = a 40 point turnaorund. Almost 7 goals.
We were what 13 points ahead and were outscored by 7 goals.
That is a capitulation which ever way you look at it.
My argument is that atm they have both achieved the same and for a coach who took us from the bottom to two prelims and a third finals series he gets a bloody poor wrap.
I think our capitulation in two finals last year was pretty dramatic as well.
GO Saints.
My issue is that despite my objectivity, people like yourself want to play on selective quoting.
At least give me some credit for being objective about this.
That's really frustrating.
BTW, feel free to talk about recruiting under GT...
Brooks, Watts, Ackland, McGough Fiora.
He was gifted BJ, Roo and Kosi. Thanks be to Timmy Watson.
Yes, we were shyte in last years finals. But the op wasn't about RL, it was about GT's comments. Different argument. Nowhere did the op mention that RL was a better coach.
