Ya gotta luv it when the "real" boys come out to play.
Matrix... POPCORN!!!!!!!!!
The only retort I can see is that he wanted to sack Lyon.
Simply return fire with 'Sack Westaway' and 'We are a certainty to win the 07 flag now that we have a real coach' (amongst many, many other appalling calls) and we find ourselves back at the original discussion. In which clearly, so very clearly, Meher Baba is currently well and truly pulling yours, B4Evas, SrR and Joffaboy's dacks down!
Sorry lads, but...

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! Wrong answer. Now you're clutching at straws. Totally illogical and subjective statement.rodgerfox wrote:It's also amazing that men may be better performing footballers than boys isn't it.saintsRrising wrote:

Any gains in these kids playing better due to age, would have been offset by the retirements of players such as 35, Gtrain, Jones, et al.

Why didn't you post this on page 2 and kill the thread?SENsaintsational wrote:RE: GT and his fitness staff.
I can comment with some limited authority.
Mark Smyth, Chris Jones, Mark Cera, Craig Starcevich and Adam Larcom were all during GT's time. Chris Jones probably the longest. And he had Olympic pedigree. Starcevich had Brisbane pedigree. Smyth and Larcom had good reputations and Cera was a boofhead, to be blunt.
Records were kept, but not to the extent that Misson wanted. Records on runs and beep tests were fine, but he wanted and keeps records of injuries, recovery times, extent of soft tissue tears, etc. More detailed information.
GT used to get involved in every facet of the club. Marketing, Training Services, Recruiting....you name it, he wanted to be involved...rightly or wrongly. Too often he spread himself way too thin.
IMO the football department of the club is run much more professionally now. A combination of extra money meaning extra staff and better equipment. More of a focus on professionalism and getting the right people for the right jobs.
I have maintained that GT was the right person in 2001 to rebuild the club and build respect. He was never the man who I thought would take us the next step.
Love him or hate him, GT changed the culture of our club. Nearly single handedly. You could question his performances on field, but this club was a basketcase and he rebuilt it. Some of it through luck, but most of it from being strong and sticking to his beliefs, rightly or wrongly.
The guy deserves respect for that alone. And I don't even like the man.
Ross Lyon is the finisher. He will be our Leigh Matthews, whilst Thomas will be the equivalent of the Walls/Northey rebuilding.
Lyon will go down as one of the best ever......in my future looking opinion.
But I respect everyone's opinion and the right to have that opinion.
Very intelligent and fairly balanced IMO.

I can handle people having differing opinions, and respect that also.
The sad part is that most of us, whatever side we fall on, can concede some positives. But the rest, are just so god-darn stubborn.
But your post sums it up nicely. And that's where I sit on the topic.

Why does the answer have to be yes. Because you said so. How about you say I think so. I too think we are better now than when GT left but is that to do with our list developing on, a new board and some young kids or just because RL is in the office.Milton66 wrote:Forget the win/loss/PF argument.saint vince wrote:I am all about the moment so I rekon Ross is the Boss however when GT was there I was pretty happy with him as well.

It is impossible to say whether we would have been better with or without GT. My argument is that when he was there I was very hapy with what he was doing and I am equally happy with RL.
It is impossible to say wht would have been and every week these threads go on and on and on and the same name calling goes with it and all of this has sweet FA to do with the OP which was about GT talking about losing a final from 5 goals up which he has never done.
GO Saints.

I'm pretty sure when after about round 15 said that he would never of been able to get us to this point because he wouldn't of had Micky G or Kingy and that Lyon was doing a better job than he could he admitted his failures.Milton66 wrote:The day that GT starts to admit his failures and takes responsibility for them... and RB as well.satchmo wrote:And so endeth the thread......until.......Milton66 wrote: But your post sums it up nicely. Let's forget your agnst towards me for a second...
20-2 record this year.
Meanest defence in the AFL this year (new assistant coach has played a major role in this). Who rectuied him?? Who recruited SOS??
Amazingly low level of soft tissue injuries. Misson, who recruited him?
Dawson, Ray, Schneider... who recruited them?
Milne, who kept him?
Joey's year. Under whom did he blossom?
Are we a more fitter, well drilled, disciplined team this year? You'd better believe it.
Are we more professional in our approach off field? You bet.
Not because I say so, but because it's fact.
Due to the feud between GT and RB, the status quo was simply untennable and would have ripped the club apart IMO.
They started with the greates of intentions, but it all went pear-shape due to their massive egos.
Everyone knows that GT was a control freak, and given that anyone who disagreed with him seemed to be shown the door (ask Daniher and Burkie), I honestly doubt the club would be better off with him today.
Why? Because GT is human and prone to make kistakes like everyone else. His failure to step away and let the board appoint a professional footy department is an indictment on an otherwise good win/loss ratio.
Finally...
Blues were 5 goals up and lost by (I think) 10 points = a 40 point turnaorund. Almost 7 goals.
We were what 13 points ahead and were outscored by 7 goals.
That is a capitulation which ever way you look at it.

My argument is that atm they have both achieved the same and for a coach who took us from the bottom to two prelims and a third finals series he gets a bloody poor wrap.
I think our capitulation in two finals last year was pretty dramatic as well.

Tell me, when did he confess to not having the proper fitness team around him? When he stated that fitness staff are over rated?
How contrite was he when he finall admitted that his appointment was a sham? Not very much.
When has he ever admitted that his half-cocked tirade against the umps was a silly thing to do and caused an unnecessary distraction coming in to a finals campaign?
