Interesting rant you posted this morning.
As I have told you in our PM exchanges, I like a good bit of argy bargy in a web forum, and am not the least bit thin-skinned. So carry on the good work.
My only problem is that I have a strong memory of GT being a pretty good coach and of the team playing extremely well under his coaching for most of 2004-06.All I can say is that if you seriously went and watched the replay because you suffer sleepless nights being tormented by internet fools such as myself who dare to speak out against the messiah, then, my friend, you seriously have some issues to deal with IMO.
When I occasionally watch replays from that era, I see us playing a great brand of football which most opposing teams had enormous trouble combatting: in other words, a bit like the situation now (albeit, a somewhat different brand of football: although the difference in the styles of the two coaches is greatly overrated by many on here. I reckon our 2009 style is far more like our style from 2004-06 than either is like what we played in 2007-08. And I've been watching replays.)
I also remember that the real reason for GT's sacking was not poor performance but because Butterss wasn't professional enough to be able to deal with their personal falling out and, helped by other unprofessional people like Archie "Macbeth" Fraser, Butterss persuaded the Board to sack GT. When the members got a chance to express their view on the matter, they sacked Butterss and many of his fellow board members. (And, in a delightfully ironic touch, Mr Fraser was again a major architect in Butterss's downfall.)
Then I come on here and read endless rants about GT being the worst coach in history, destroyed our club, etc, etc.
When I read this stuff, I decide to jump in and defend the truth as I believe it to be.
Not because I think that GT is or was the "Messiah". I don't. I reckon Lyon, for one, is a better coach as are - among current or recent coaches - Sheedy, Matthews, Malthouse, Williams, Clarkson and - probably - Bomber Thompson (I don't think there's a heap in it between GT and Bomber). I don't rate most of the rest as highly, and I don't really see how anyone seriously can (take Craig, for instance: his performance on Saturday night was woeful IMO. I am sure that GT would have done better in the coach's box, especially after half time).
So there you have it IMO with GT: not the best coach going around, but better than average. Probably won't ever get another coaching gig, because he has made too many enemies around the place. Even his role as a media commentator is in doubt (especially after his comments on tanking today). GT is pompous and feckless, and has brought much of this trouble on himself. But that doesn't mean he was a bad coach.
If I'm obsessed with GT, then I ask why it is that - of the dozens of threads started about GT on here over the past couple of years - I haven't started a single one?
How many have you started, M66? There's this one, for starters.
