This thread is now a disgrace. Some of you GT lovers and haters have to get over yourselves. We are in a prelim and we now have a different coach who is doing a great job. some of you write things so often you start believing it is fact. My guess is that none of us have complete knowledge on whether GT was or was not a good coach but who cares. he is gone, never coming back.
Can he comment on other coaches. yes because that is now his job.

I'm picking up my keyboard and going home!
More irony coming from the person who is quick to chastise people with his glib, sarcastic remarks... yet now you feel that you can come here and tell us how to behave?
I mean, seriously?
That's ironic.
I mean can someone with a modicum of intelligence plaese explain to me why, we cannot discuss other "taboo" topics just because we've made a prelim, and still enjoy the success so far this year?
Why are the 2 mutually exclusive P66?
You of all people start some very inane threads that take the pyss out of posters who constantly want Goose to play et al, yet a few of us can't kill some time discussing an age old argument.
Peerleeeeeeeeeeze!
I sincerely hope we build a friendship so that I can be there when you're 85 and start to ramble on about past events.
FAIRDINKUM. What ever happened to democracy?
Much like a TV, you can always switch the channel if ya don't like it. No one PM's you and forces you to read this.
Otherwise, I still love you.
You're not a priest by any chance are you?

Lyon is not the Messiah...but he is a bloody good coach.
Quite simply I am a fan of Lyon because from Day 1 he has set about adding value to the team...both in it's list...and it's gameplan....as well as in offield areas including his willingness to TEAM with all the offield units.
He took a while to get all the players on board with their workrate (which is what I posted after Lyon started would be his biggest challenge). However unlike you recognise that Lyon took over a team that had way too many downhill skiers who could look awesome when on a roll, but were bloody terrible when the opposition gained momentum.
I contrast this with GT....
*Gameplan initially effective after Rendell masterminded the aping of the Lions gameplan. But once the better opposition teams and coaches countered this with revised gameplans the St Kilda Strategy Cupboard was bare.
* List management. Was dreadful with on the whole dismal trades. No rookies developed.
* Offield there was bad blood everywhere. The relationship with our VFL affiliate was a bad one...hardly the right enviroment to develop players.
* Player conditioning which GT demanded accountability from the Board for was downright dismal.
The trend of the quality of our list under GT was backwards...he failed to add any quality and could not even trad water.
IMO you mistake our rise u the ladder with GT's coaching powers. You are mistaken.
It was in the main due to the quality of the list assembled in the main before GT took the resigns.
what I posted years ago on GT is what came to pass.
What I posted on Lyon..has come to pass. Posters such as you ridiculed my posts.
You vitriol on Lyon, Schneider and others has been proven by time to have been ridiculous ramblings. I challenged your posts at the time...and have been consistent in my posts.
It all gets back to did GT do all the things one could reasonably expect? Answer is no.
Is Lyon doing all the things that one could reasonably expect? Answer is yes.
That you prefer a salesman to a real coach is your choice. I will go for the like of Lyon every time.

err well by your logic this is a forum...so forumites can post on any topic of their choosing subject to forum rules & the context of a particular thread...because yes that is what people on a forum do.
This is clearly a GT thread...so why enter it if you do not want to discuss GT?
Why not stick to threads about the Prelim nect week????
PS: and as to why talk about it now...well we are not playing this week and we have to talk about something....and I do note that you also objected to the Dogs/Lions thread despite being about our next weeks opponent.

The thread was a simple comment on whether he has a right to say ratten coached badly. it became a thread on GT as a coach. that is my issue. If you cant see it you are as bad as some others. And if you could show me were I objected to the Lions thread please post. Maybe to get my point across i need to leave a line between points like you do. Makes you sound more important.saintsRrising wrote:plugger66 wrote:

Under GT in wins we had per season
4, 5, 11, 16, 14, 14
Under RL we have per season:
11.5, 13, 20
The record of both is very impressive.
What GT achieved with no money was exceptional.
RL has followed on with a budget to levels no-one could expect.
So why do people have a go at either? They should be appreciated by Saints supporters not abused.

Pretty pointless comparing turnover now, as turnover has grown for all clubs.
Money was found for items that those at the time viewed as important.
ie Blight being paid a $million a year....Overseas training camps.
A lot of big $$$$$ was sunk into assembling a very good list that GT through deceipt got to take over.
Best group of players since the 60's.
