All of the teams we could play from here on have a player who's vaguely a Maxwell-type: Lake, Drummond, Scarlett.ohwhenthesaints! wrote:If we play the Bulldogs, I would like Gwilt to play. Matched up well last time, kicked 2.
This week Eddy matched up on that player and had 8 touches, 3 marks, 7 tackles, 3 inside 50s, 1 behind; while Maxwell had 17 touches, 5 marks, 1 inside 50, 1 tackle; he was the opposition's sixth highest possession winner.
It's my gut feeling that, while it was close, Eddy was beaten by Maxwell.
If that's what Ross thinks, then I wouldn't be surprised if Eddy goes out. The player who comes in will be playing that same important role - defensive forward matching up on the opposition's chief loose man and rebounder. Gwilt can do that as well as Eddy so it's much of a muchness. Geary can't do that so he won't come in.

That's the question, given he was suspended when we played them in round 17? I still am not convinced that we will see Max again, but this is the only scenario that maybe works in his favour?BringBackMadDog wrote:One question: If we get the Bulldogs in the prelim, who would Zac match up on?? I find it difficult to get a good match up for him. I think Max would be better suited as he normally destroys the medium sized forwards like Johnson, Hahn, Murphy etc, and I think Blake would get Minson

Zac took Minson in the first match. He generally takes whoever lines up deepest, provided they're not a complete mismatch. Max has taken Welsh the last few outings against the Dogs. We'll probably play Fisher and Gilbert against Johnson and Murphy. Then there's Aka, Gia and Higgins to worry about.
I don't think we have to play Max. At the same time, I think we can if we want to.

It was an interesting match-up by us.bergholt wrote:All of the teams we could play from here on have a player who's vaguely a Maxwell-type: Lake, Drummond, Scarlett.ohwhenthesaints! wrote:If we play the Bulldogs, I would like Gwilt to play. Matched up well last time, kicked 2.

At centre bounces, Eddy lined up on the wing by himself, almost conceding Maxwell a 'cheap kick' if he could get the footy. It seemed like the Coaching panel just wanted to stop Maxwell's effectiveness forward of the centre line, backing Roo and Kosi to take marks whether Maxwell was third man up or not.
If my reading of what happened is correct, they may be well satisfied with Eddy's game?
