39% here we come

Post: # 814833Post Enrico_Misso »

Our all time record is
Played 2167
Won 834
Drawn 22
Lost 1311
That gives us a win rate (draws count half) of 38.994%

When we win the Prelim it will go to 39.022%

This will be the first time in our history that our cumulative rate has reached 39%
It was 38.08% when Ross took over.
If we win 42 of our next 50 we will crack 40%.

never reached 39%. so i take it we got pumped in our first year in the comp and never recovered?

ouch. not a great history. who gives a toss! if we win this year we have 100% more flags than the pies in the last 50 years.

and the real afl only started in 1990 or so i reckon (whenever west coast/crows came in?). since then we have been ok.

I think we didn't win a senior game for about 3 years in the beginning? Something like that anyway.

I haven't updated this graph since earlier this year (R12 - hence the 100% win rate for this year).
But it shows where we have come from.

So the blue dotted line is about to hit 39%.

Can you change the Y axis to 100% (and remove the decimals on the Y Axis). Thanks.

I would love to see the Collingwood graph.

So many premierships but only 1 in the last 50 years.
It surely would be a graph heading south.

Incorrect.

The Collingwood graph would look Very Very healthy.

Their win rate is not far short of 61%.
61% !!!!
We have only had about 20 seasons where we have achieved a rate above 60%.
(Count how many purple dots on our graph are below 20% or even 10%).

Our win rate is 39%.
So they are 22% better than us for their long term average - that is 22% on ave for EACH season.
Shows just how far we have to go.
Or alternatively shows the depths from which we have come.
It will literally take us centuries to make up for our our first 60 years.

Their graph would be pretty consistent.
In the last 50 years they have still won their share of matches.
Just, fortunately, only one of them has been a premiership.

This may reflect the fact that our lads were off fighting Nazis and other undesireables of the time whilst other team's members hid under the bed and just came out on weekends to play it "tough" on the field - case in point Carlton 1945 !!

Yeah, there's a whole lot of low numbers there which will take a long, long time to counteract. The Jeans Mountain barely moves the line - and that was forty years ago when there was less history! Let's hope there's a Mountain Lyon which has a similar effect.

Good stuff, but for the graph to make an accurate visual statement it needs to extend to 100% mark

the content is interesting, reflecting on our past and hoping for the future, but not to be focused on at the expense of the "now" if one is seeking the joy of living

the present moment is the key to it , and for us at present it is nearly perfect!

and I have a good book to recommend .on the subject..

Hey Enrico
That's fascinating reading and you've done well.
Just wondering if you were able to do a similar graph from when Allan Jeans started as coach. Would also be good to see our success since the draft and equalisation came in.

To me it reads - Hird caused a downward trend - who'd want him as a coach!

I always thought our improvement started when Killigrew took over as Coach. I think the graph shows that.

MF,
I will do some playing around in the off season.
Obviously we did well under Jeansy, but as you can see from the dips in the mid70s - 90s (don't have to tell anyone over 40 as we all lived through them !) all the good work was undone.

No doubt Killa "You've got to be prepared to die for this club" laid the foundations for Jeans (before he racked off to North).

Enrico, your chart is great. Well done.

This is really interesting stuff. I wonder how the current 16 teams compare since 1997 when Port joined the comp. That would be fascinating to see if they average out or if a few outliers exist, e.g. Freo at the bottom.
