Drew Morphett
Not the first thread on this ass clown.
I found his call particularly un-listenable to on the w/end.
It has been said before, however one feels it deserves another mention.
ABC Grandstand (Drew Morphett) with a partisan call. Was particularly poor IMHO.
Perhaps he is forgetting who is paying his bills.
Not good enough ABC. Really poor actually.

he was born in sydney i believe.
it was disgraceful from him yesterday.
it's not cricket.
when you tune into the ABC you should expect to get a neutral call.
this tim/sam lane era has been particularly bad because it is not the way the ABC call has been historically.
the ABC has been historically about neutrality.
the ABC should be expected to be about neutrality.
it was really poor from drew, a really really poor effort from someone who should know better.

Drew Morphett has been a shocking caller for over 20 years ..
I still remember his calls of Saints games in late 80's on Ch.7 .. so mocking and condescending ... 'Oh gee they're playing WELL these Saints .... ' as if it was such a big shock .. f*****g tool ...
I havent listened to him call a game since he (mercifully) got off TV .. and dont listen to ABC calls ... sounds like he hasn't changed at all ..

I can't believe that in Melbourne there are 4 radio stations covering the same game?

The real issue here is not bias FOR a team.
Eddie McGuire would be terrible calling a Collingwood game, but as long as the Pies weren't involved, his call was impartial.
What we, as St Kilda supporters, are subjected to is commentators who are biased AGAINST St Kilda.
The three stooges from Fox (Russell, Dunstall and Lynch) were the worst I heard this year. Had to hear them talk up Melbourne's pitiful second half against us in Round 10. Dunstall talking about "good forward opportunities" from a team that didn't score for a quarter; didn't kick a goal for a half.
Morphett is another example - the only commentator I've ever rung up and complained about (the match in question was Round 8 1996 - I was 16 and Morphett was saying stuff like "it won't be long before Adelaide run all over the top of St Kilda", which made it more annoying when it happened).
Gerard Healy is getting a reputation of late - his column on Saturday was tripe, and not just because Collingwood will probably win this weekend coming.
Tim Lane can be a little condescending, but that's just his shtick. He's the intelligent one who uses words Collingwood supporters don't know the meaning of.

Actually the poor old media have been running around in circles the last couple of weeks, convinced firstly that the Dogs were the goods, then last week it was the Pies..even Dean Laidley predicting the Pies to beat us by 10 points yesterday; now reality has returned, and the press have reluctantly starting climbing back on the Saints bandwagon after realising that it was no fluke that we have won 20 games this season.

Dennis CORMETTI gives us a fair run...
he being from WA is biaised with the Eagles and Freo but otherwise I think he has a soft spot for the SAINTS and enjoys our success.
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!

Didn't hear the call on radio yesterday, but it's disappointing that a Melbourne based broadcast is showing bias. I've come to expect it from the uber-parochial media in WA where guys like Jakovich, Watters and Judge are completely unable to contain their narrow view of the game. I was listening to the Brisbane / Carlton game on Saturday night and Roger Merrett was even worse than the WA guys. He was audibly tut-tutting and groaning whenever things didn't go Brisbane's way. I was hoping like hell Brisbane would win, but even so it was very blatant.
But I'd expect better from the ABC broadcasting a match out of a city with 10 teams based in it.
