the last ten minutes of the todays game

Post: # 813203Post python »

some of the most memorable and rewarding moments ive ever had at the football. Was sitting a few rows behind the cheer squad, and whether it was the singing of the song over and over again, or the roar that erupted whenever a sainter got their hands on the ball, especially when gardiner and kosi took those marks was just fantastic.

But the most satisfying thing...

Cheering and clapping the pies supporters home as they left early, made all the more sweeter as they lifted their middle finger to the saints crowd. The roar just grew louder as more sainters saw what was going on and joined in on the fun. The atmosphere was brilliant! And you knew they hated it!

And with a week off this week i expect it to be even louder come the preliminary final!

To all those who sat around that section (im sure there were others in the crowd, but i didnt see them) and fired up the crowd with their chants and songs...well done! Great work, you gave me one hell of an experience today!

sadly my best memory was the 97 prelim against North, i was soooo sure we had the flag wrapped up at that point :(

I think from what i've seen, this is the best we've ever been prepared by the coaching and fitness staff, and the best we've ever played and im still too nervous :D.

that said i am not sure our talent is that different to what we had in 91/92 and 97/98, just superior fitness and superior coaching.....

i was at the 97 prelim, too young too remember much of it though... I think the fact it was against collingwood made it so much sweeter today.

loved it!

The number of filth supporters being escorted out by security at the Punt Rd end was incredible!

Didn't they try and weed out all the riff raff from their cheer squad at the start of the year?

I was also just a couple of rows behind the cheer squad.

Did anyone see those two guys with the saints face paint?

They were brilliant, did not stop screaming from the start.

And after the game they were just high fiving and embracing all the other sainters around them.

There was an elderly couple in front of me dancing to the song at the end of the game. They looked so happy. I really hope we win it this year. As much as it would mean to me I know there are people who have supported the club longer and through much tougher times than i have the looks on the REALLY long suffering supporters faces at the final siren if we went all the way would be something that I believe would stay with me for the rest of my life

Yes, yes, 1997 PF. I will never forget a lone Saints supporter sitting a couple of rows in front of me yelling out "King Carey, HA, where are you and what are you doing now? It's King Harvey. King Harvey"!! Yep, highlight to date for mine, perhaps rivaled by the win in Adelaide in 05 in the QF.

Heatley with 7, maybe 3 or 4 in the 1st Qtr in 97 PF. I think he also kicked 9 in the earlier game against the Roos that year.

Very different build up to that year, though! We were 1 and 4 from memory and lost to the Dogs and Cats during the streak (they were both more mid-year though). So, much better full season this year, but perhaps a much better "perceived" opposition.

Was in the same area also, next to the filth bay. There is few things in life as rewarding as seeing them hit the carpark half way through the last - then the eruption when the siren went, and the singing, clapping and dancing to the theme song over and over....it was brilliant, well done to us all in the area, not only did the coach outcoach them and the players outplay them today, but the supporters outsupported them EASILY.

It was bliss. Let's hope we get to do it again in a couple of weeks, and then once more as we take home the Cup.

GO SAINTERS!!!! YOU LITTLE RIPPER!!!

Please...let's win a Premiership before GEELONG!!!! (O.k., so we've missed that opportunity...maybe let's win the next one before Geelong????)

I was sitting in Bay 13 ground level near the back with many saints fans.

A heap of Collingwood scum were standing at the back heckling people and yelling abuse to the Saints players.

Waving to them goodbye in the last quarter...priceless. 8-)

loved our bay in the olympic stand, had one youngster starting chants etc.

But 20 minutes into the final quarter an older guy goes to his friend....

"knock knock....." (we all look strangely at each other)
( mate says after 30 seconds) "who's there?"
"oh when...."
"oh when who?"

OH WHEN THE SAINTS, GO MARCHING IN....................

anyway after such a nervous day and being on edge over every contest it was awesome to see a bay smile, relax and belt out the song.

How fantastic was the atmosphere in the car park after the game? Whilst trying to VERY SLOWLY leave the ground, there were Saint supporters everywhere! We had the windows down in the car and the supporters would walk past the car (which is obviously a Saints supporters car with Saints number plates, saints flags and scarves clearly on display....LOL) and all you could hear and see were Saints supporters yelling and cheering and singing the song.

People would come up to the car (which was stationary for quite a while) and chant GO SAINTERS followed by a fist pump. Just absolutely LOVED IT!!!!

I am so proud to be a Saints supporter this morning. The noise and the atmosphere at the game yesterday was amazing! I was concerned about this prior to the game, but my fellow Sainters didn't let me down. :D

the ST KILDA, ST KILDA chant that went up around the ground sent a shiver down the spine.

Again .. both the main blocks of Saints fans around M8 on the forward flank and main cheer squad behind the goals looked and sounded *awesome* from way up high where we were sitting !!!!

Fantastic atmosphere ... and seeing the bays of red & white still clapping and heaving absolutely full while the bays around them were deserted at the end was a beautiful sight !!

There's a great photo on the afl gallery of the fans in my aisle jeering the filth as they leave the game early. It was absolutely amazing, the two aisles had been going back and forth all day.

We won on the scoreboard, and in the quality of our comebacks all day!!!

What made it even funnier was when a toothless felon wanted to get physical with me individally, taking his top off and pointing that we go outside. I replied by saying that he was pointing the wrong way, and then myself pointed to the scoreboard.

Everyone had a good laugh, made my day....go saints!!

Thought we had a great bay with lots of cheering and was funny to hear a lot of us getting stuck into Rocca.

That's very weird. The side's into a Prelim! Enjoy that the most instead and soak that up...
