Riewoldt's Knee

Post: # 812344Post bergholt »

Anyone got any information on this?

I assume it's not that bad if he played so well after hurting it, but in the rooms it looked like they were putting a lot of ice onto it.

Did anyone hear anything about it?

He'll be fine. You don't end up BOG with a serious knee injury.

Whenever he pulls up sore, or limps to the bench, not much attention goes to assisting him with it. I'm thinking it is what it is, and he will have to wait until the end of the year to do anything about it.

All the more impressive though....

He said he was fine when interviewed, I think ice and plastic wrap were the order of the day after the game after the effort and hardness of the game.

On both knees...

When he hurt a knee in the first was it the same one that has been causing him a bit of trouble?

Knee? You mean knees. He had more ice strapped to him than a member of the Moran family at Chasers.

This knee injury is his right knee, which he aggravated in the North game. The pre-season knee injury, which required an arthroscope, was his left knee.

I think he's missing a PCL in that knee, so whenever he lands on it it's going to shift more than normal and cause a bit of pain for a short period. But because he is such a champion he just gets on with it and keeps running. SUPERSTAR!!!!

If he had no pcl the knee would dislocate very easily and he couldn't play. He may have a partial tear thou and still play but their is no way he could play without one at all.

He'll be delighted to take the week off and get the knee right for the prelim.

And what a game a he played! Not just the 5 goals, but his tackling was ferocious.

Playing like a true premiership captain of recent time ala Voss, Kernahan, Carey, Tuck etc...

It was his right knee, same as the one he jarred against North 2 weeks ago. His pre-season knee injury requiring surgery was his left knee.

No offence mate, but I know what I'm talking about and clearly from your comment you don't.

Maybe I should clarify. I'm not 100% sure whether Rooey is missing a PCL or not (hence my comment "I think"), but from the vision I've seen I feel he may (you may know more than me Plugger).
What I'm not too thrilled about is people making incorrect medical statements when they don't have the knowledge.

Impossible to do anything without ligaments (which hold the bones together) and can be difficult and painful to do things with missing cartilage - the grease between bones. I reckon, after a couple of knee ops, it is his cartilage that is the problem. There can be "floating" bits where there has been damage, hence the need for periodic arthroscopes. I admit, it is not a good long term prognosis, but should see us through to the end of September.

Fingers crossed he lasts a couple more games without any major problems.

He chucked in the third quarter as he ran back to the goalsquare. Poor guy! It shows how hard he works.

Different sport but there are early similarities between Riewoldt and Tottenham's captain Ledley King who's almost 29 now.

King has had chronic knee problems throughout his career and is currently being "managed" in the same way. I just hope Roo's knee doesn't deteriorate to the same extent.

It is said that King's knee swells up so badly after a game that it takes a week for the swelling to go down therefore he is limited to cycling work between games - no running whatsoever. He has a short half hour session the day before a game and even then must ice his knee such is the swelling.

With King's knee there's very little cartilage so apparently there's no cure because there's nothing to operate on. The joint's deterioration is so bad that it is basically just bone on bone now.

A week doesn't go by it seems without seeing Riewoldt limping. It may not be a major concern now but hopefully something like that doesn't affect him long-term. Such a great player who can become even better, terrible to think that an injury could prevent him from being the best footballer he could possibly be.
