Riewoldt's Knee
Anyone got any information on this?
I assume it's not that bad if he played so well after hurting it, but in the rooms it looked like they were putting a lot of ice onto it.
Did anyone hear anything about it?

He'll be delighted to take the week off and get the knee right for the prelim.
And what a game a he played! Not just the 5 goals, but his tackling was ferocious.
Playing like a true premiership captain of recent time ala Voss, Kernahan, Carey, Tuck etc...

No offence mate, but I know what I'm talking about and clearly from your comment you don't.ausfatcat wrote:If he had no pcl the knee would dislocate very easily and he couldn't play. He may have a partial tear thou and still play but their is no way he could play without one at all.kp83 wrote:I think he's missing a PCL in that knee,
No offence to either of you but I dont think you are correct.kp83 wrote:No offence mate, but I know what I'm talking about and clearly from your comment you don't.ausfatcat wrote:If he had no pcl the knee would dislocate very easily and he couldn't play. Maybe I should clarify. I'm not 100% sure whether Rooey is missing a PCL or not (hence my comment "I think"), but from the vision I've seen I feel he may (you may know more than me Plugger).plugger66 wrote:No offence to either of you but I dont think you are correct.kp83 wrote:No offence mate, but I know what I'm talking about and clearly from your comment you don't.ausfatcat wrote:If he had no pcl the knee would dislocate very easily and he couldn't play. What I'm not too thrilled about is people making incorrect medical statements when they don't have the knowledge.

Impossible to do anything without ligaments (which hold the bones together) and can be difficult and painful to do things with missing cartilage - the grease between bones. I reckon, after a couple of knee ops, it is his cartilage that is the problem. There can be "floating" bits where there has been damage, hence the need for periodic arthroscopes. I admit, it is not a good long term prognosis, but should see us through to the end of September.
Different sport but there are early similarities between Riewoldt and Tottenham's captain Ledley King who's almost 29 now.
King has had chronic knee problems throughout his career and is currently being "managed" in the same way. I just hope Roo's knee doesn't deteriorate to the same extent.
It is said that King's knee swells up so badly after a game that it takes a week for the swelling to go down therefore he is limited to cycling work between games - no running whatsoever. He has a short half hour session the day before a game and even then must ice his knee such is the swelling.
With King's knee there's very little cartilage so apparently there's no cure because there's nothing to operate on. The joint's deterioration is so bad that it is basically just bone on bone now.
A week doesn't go by it seems without seeing Riewoldt limping. It may not be a major concern now but hopefully something like that doesn't affect him long-term. Such a great player who can become even better, terrible to think that an injury could prevent him from being the best footballer he could possibly be.
