Why, Gwilt manages more than his share of games without impressing in the twos..

ok to clarify :) thanks matrix _ I did warn I was no instant sms'ser
Proviso- I am sure there are some who will provide 'football' based reports but here's the lay persons version .

Sautner was there but had sling on- broken shoulder,? was told not collar bone but more shoulder=- occurred when a Port melbourne Player ran through him at the 28 min mark fo the last quarter last week
the only Saints in the 'squad' for Sandy I didn't pick out was Begley or Maguire- but he wasn't named

Sandringham Seniors - Howard, Gwilt, Stevens, Heyne, Smith, Geary, Miles, Simpkin, Gaertner, Lynch, Stanley, Hudghton, Armitage, Fisher, Ball,

Sandringham Reserves go into the Finals and were very excited about it -
included Tungatulum, McGrath, Connors, Haretuku

Sam McGarry was again on BallyCam- Bally Vision- for half of game,
as stated apparently Ross L was there for the first half- BUt I didn't see any others apart from training and medical staff- too cold and wet to move once you found or warmed a spot.

Weather- poured at start of reserves game but was drizzly to start then cleared with breeze from the west- proved to be about a 5 goal wind as no team kicked more than 1 to the other end.
Sun actually came out during the Seniors game and the wind / breeze had dropped and virtually dissappeared in the third term.
Only for Torrential rain and the strong wind to pick up early in the 4th quarter which aided the North Ballarat team to kick 7 in a game in which there hadn't been more than 4 kicked by any team in a quarter.

2009 VFL Reserves

North Ballarat 1.2 7.5 7.5 12.9 (81)
Sandringham 5.3 7.7 12.13 13.15 (93)

2009 VFL Seniors
North Ballarat 1.1 4.4 5.7 12.10 (82)
Sandringham 2.1 2.2 8.5 8.8 (56)

both Luke and Max had a fair amount of game time, Sandringham seemed to lose structure when going forward and did not take advantage of slight breeze early on- neither did North which seemed to show that the defences were winning
Armo, Gears and Jack were all visible in the first half, Bally was called for running over the mark which meant a 50 meter penalty in the second when he appeard to be just checking, he was increasing his intensity and had his head in and under plenty.
Lynchy more so in the third but faded
Third term as shown was Sandy's best and Bally mark and kicked a great goal as they had a small run of the game, as well as Simpkin getting one. Gears again bobbed up for one in that quarter to.
Jimmy and Max were more evident with marking and kicking out of defence in the second half,
Again I was impressed by Rhys Stanley, for a young kid playing against the 2008 premiers he did ok, and moves around the ground to contest. and Gaertner took a couple of grabs in defence.
Howard, Heyne, Smith, Miles, Simpkin, Fisher, were all in and about, without starring.

ask questions it may nudge my memory.

other sandy players who stood out- Tregear and Gallagher

Those grounds on the beach can really throw up some weird weather.

This from Bigfooty poster at the game:

"went to the game and Sandy were in front at 3/4 time and even up to about the half way mark of the last but were overun by Ballarat in about 5 minutes.
Armitage had 40 possies, Geary 37 and Ball 31. Ross Lyon was there and I think he was impressed by the first 3/4. Max was ok without being outstanding. Sandy had trouble up forward with no Sautner and looked a bit lost going forward at times Stanley is going to be a star"

Also went on to say how our depth looks real impressive (hes a Blues fan) and asked to jump on board (I guess after their belting...)

That is the strangest thing. As a precaution you would've thought at the very least one of them wouldn't play.
But if you wanted all 3 to get a game because you were more interested in their form you might say - who cares against Melbourne, St Kilda is already minor premiers.

How could Sandy lose when 15 out of their 22 players are Saints players.

Is there anything stopping us playing our seniors such as hudghton, ball, geary etc in the reserves during the finals?

And who dyu think played well enough to potentially get a recall?

have to have played so many games for the team concerned I think
certainly AFL players going back do-
AFL listed players need 7 games in total at VFL level (senior and/or reserves) to qualify
I assume it's the same for players within the seniors and reserves.

found this info on the reserves finals
This year's VFL Reserves finals is a top 6, 3 week knockout series

WEEK 1 Elimination Finals
Game A 3rd vs 6th
Game B 4th vs 5th

One aspect I like about Geary is that he knows how to snag a goal.

The positive - Ball, Geary, Armitage, Steven and Gwilt probably all got more game time than they would if they had played against Melbourne plus they get an extra days recovery.

nice report Saintbrat, looked pretty football based to me :D

I caught the game also, just a few thoughts for what they're worth (I didn't catch the first qtr)

PS - tricky ground to watch footy on, the stands are quite low and the ground fairly convex so not easy to follow play on far side of ground. view from inside better but hard to get full ground view. a lot warmer though and beer served in glass, OMG

bally - did pretty well, especially in the third when he kicked that goal. he won the clearance from the centre and hit a target on HFF then ran on quickly into the F50 received a pass and marked. went back and drilled it. lots of encouragement from the team.
he won quite a bit of praise from the coach at 3/4 time for his tough efforts in the quarter.
wasn't a massive standout but generally used the ball to advantage and not overly in and under with his play. was tagged by No43 for NB (for the 2nd qtr at least)
didn't really seem to be reading the rucks all that well aside from nice clearance in the 3rd

geary - got a lot of the ball, not always the best ball use, few kicks a bit up and under but generally good. got the ball moving and found a lot of it.

armo - nice game, not amazing though, didn't realise he had so many touches. disposal by foot was quite good. got praise at 3/4 time for creating a contest out of nothing and winning important possession.

max - typical scragging max work, some fumbles and the odd free against

lynch - disappointing from what I saw, well beaten in the air by his opponent. ran/worked under the ball a fair bit. goal from mark on the last line.

stanley - moves very well and looks to enjoy the contest, should develop into a handy player

gaertner - like the way he goes about it, big loping style. didn't seem to do that well down back, trailing his opponent on a few occasions. but did nicely in the ruck, great leap and a good mover through traffic when in possession.

simpkin - looks like a quality player. very good in one on ones, uses his body well and forces opponent out of the drop zone. looks very composed and a pretty nice kick too. would be great to see him step up for a couple of games next year

gwilt - did some good things. good presence at this level, strong and well balanced in the contest

steven - good game, scuttling around, can't recall any particular highlights

fisher - composed

miles - nothing grabbed my attention

howard - looks no different to last year

smith - didn't realise he was playing, woops
heyne - didn't realise he was out there til last qtr, woops

good to see footy at this level, nice and close to the play with all the sounds of the game. pretty good conditions in the 2nd and 3rd, ground in fantastic condition, great surface. pissed down in the last, must have been painfully cold for the players, some didn't look very happy. bally didn't seem to mind...
max and bally rested for about the last 3min of game, no superstar treatment
