They have to lose to play us, or in Collingwood's case lose by four goals or more.satchmo wrote:The way we have been playing the past two weeks, BOTH clubs will be very keen to have a crack at us. This means they are likely to kill each other in order to win. Might just work in our favour!

In that case, might be a nil all draw!kosifantutti23 wrote:They have to lose to play us, or in Collingwood's case lose by four goals or more.satchmo wrote:The way we have been playing the past two weeks, BOTH clubs will be very keen to have a crack at us. And the worrying thing is the Doggies have something that both the Bombers and the Roos had over us in the last 2 weeks.kosifantutti23 wrote:Bulldogs

A lot of Foot Speed. and at the end of the season that foot speed.
Gotta hope we can use our bigs properly if we play the Dogs.

these prediction threads are always inaccurate when we are discussing percentage because the percentage is taken over the entire year and not just one game.
there is nothing i hate more than some wiseguy suggesting that a team needs to beat another team by a certain number of points when we all know fullwell that the result is relative to the overall total.
it drives my nuts when you get some numbers-man trying to big himself up by quoting imaginary numbers.

... Well.
Yes, don't panic.
In the qualifying final we will play - well.
Against a team we have beaten convincingly twice this year.
Next step the Prelim against a battle weary lower side.
Next step - GLORY

oh no, it's just interesting to see who we may play, where and upon what formula we can base an assumption.
could we use average points for and against as a formula?
could we summarise that their game is at the dome and the respective scoring records there this year?
lets get some formula and figures and start the argumant all over again shall we? i want to discuss this further.

Thanks for that tutorial on percentage.BaysideSaint wrote:these prediction threads are always inaccurate when we are discussing percentage because the percentage is taken over the entire year and not just one game.

Unlike last year where we played Essendon and their was a simple linear relationship between our required score and Essendon's score, this year the two teams in question play each other in the final round. This results in a quadratic equation in both x and y.
So rather than solve mathematically, I did a "what if" analysis on Excel. And for most reasonable scores by the dogs the required margin is 22 points. It becomes 21 points if the Dogs score 120 or more.

quadratic equation .. cool! they were the ones that i prefered to get stoned instead of learning... LOL
cool, so are you saying that if WBD score 121 and collingwood score 100 we will play collingwood? i guess that's what you're saying, i dunno.
i dunno. my brain isn't working.
can we do the quadratic equation again?
i'm struggling.
if collingwood score 100 and WBD score 122 we definitely play collingwood yeah? is it completely exact?

If the bulldogs score 22 points or less they cannot finish third
Bulldogs score between 23 and 39 points, they must win by 23 points or more
Bulldogs score between 40 and 151 points they must win by 22 points or more
Bulldogs score 152 or more, they must win by 21 points or more.
In other words:
about 22 points.
