Max has got to play
today we saw the frailty of our backline when the ball is brought in quickly. too many times were our backmen caught out of postion costing us goals. max is still one of the best full-backs in the league and must play finals,he is an important foundation in the back half as he rarely gets beaten over a whole game of footy. although he doesnt have the best disposal in the team his defensive efforts and ability to shut down key forwards makes him essential to our line up. let us all hope that we can get his hamstring right and ready for the finals

100%. Max should never have been dropped. He is such an important player. We need to remind ourselves that teams haven't been able to kick scores against us because of our excellent frontal pressure - not because of our backline. Dawson has been ok, i grant. But let's not kid ourselves, Max is far superior to him. A mistake was made this week and it caused Max to get injured.
so the club hasnt mentioned how long he will miss?max#8 wrote:he tweaked it yesterday playing for sandy. it didnt look to bad but he sat out the rest of the game. hopefully will only miss 1 or 2 at mostxander wrote:whats the deal with his hamstring?
he's not on the list from yesterday http://www.saints.com.au/injuries/tabid ... fault.aspx

He may have done his knee had he played today. To say dropping him caused the injury is complete rubbish. His form wasnt great and zac's was better. When he is fit it may go the other way. We may find out in a couple of weeks.devil saint wrote:100%. Max should never have been dropped. He is such an important player. You've summed it up nicely.max#8 wrote:max is still one of the best full-backs in the league and must play finals,he is an important foundation in the back half as he rarely gets beaten over a whole game of footy. although he doesnt have the best disposal in the team his defensive efforts and ability to shut down key forwards makes him essential to our line up.
Zac has had two shockers in a row (I know he's the only one) and has been exposed when has to play strictly one-on-one and can't zone-off.

so you think he is injured?plugger66 wrote:Wouldnt think he really any chance this week.bigcarl wrote:in which case he'd be a strong chance this week.Baldock Rules wrote:Daryl Wakelin[ex sainter] said on SEN that he had good mail that Max's Hamstring is fine and the club were just being ultra conservative.
Well he certainly looked like he hurt himself in the sandy game.bigcarl wrote:so you think he is injured?plugger66 wrote:Wouldnt think he really any chance this week.bigcarl wrote:in which case he'd be a strong chance this week.Baldock Rules wrote:Daryl Wakelin[ex sainter] said on SEN that he had good mail that Max's Hamstring is fine and the club were just being ultra conservative.

Max has only played 7 games this year, his first one being round 11 against North. He played in the loss against Bombers, and didn't play today. While I love Max and I do want him back in the side, we have won easily in games without him (2/3 of our games approx.), from what I've been reading Dawson seems to be singled out in our last 2 losses, and granted he didn't play his best, some of the others have been out of form as well (Fisher, Gilbert last week). I think the backline as a whole need to find form again, they can be effective with or without Max.
