Leigh Montagna
Is he the most overrated player in the AFL? To hear him talk about himself, you would have to say no. A legend in his own mind.
But, he cannot win a contest, is the worst handballer in the team and is the most inaccurate shot for goal in the team - 6 goals 17 behinds and many misses altogether. He is good at running past a pack and receiving a handball and he has improved in his tackling this year which, in the past, were always broken. He is quick, but a poor decision maker - if there is a bad option, he'll pick it. He is small, but so is Andrew McQualter. For someone who is talked about as a Brownlow chance, he looks mighty ordinary to me.

Wrong, Riewoldt has kicked 42 behinds this year.perfectionist wrote:Is he the most overrated player in the AFL? To hear him talk about himself, you would have to say no. A legend in his own mind.

Gee people turn when we lose a couple
Joey was in our best 3 players today..at least he ran to provide an option and won some contested footy.
Every one of the 22 out there today missed a target at some point...our kicking whether for goal or in general play was awful
Had to clean my glasses and make sure Cayden Beetham hadnt come out of retirement

Re: Leigh Montagna
You forget to add that Nick has kicked 61 goals. I think everyone else can see that 6 goals 17 behinds is far more inaccurate than 61 goals 42 behinds.roo_477 wrote:Wrong, Riewoldt has kicked 42 behinds this year.perfectionist wrote:Is he the most overrated player in the AFL? Montagna is having possibly his best year but without a doubt he is close to the worst kick for goal, usually under no pressure, in the league. Most times he breaks clear into the open and often doesn't even go close to nailing a goal. And that's not rubbish, it's the damn truth. it's not having a go at him. it is just stating a fact.

For what it is worth I was of the opinion that Montagna and a few others, including particularly Gram, looked absolutely stuffed when they came to the interchange bench - and were labouring in their running action accross the ground to get to the interchange bench.
Stiff legged shuffling running not pumping running to effect the interchange ASAP.
It may be the effects of a "loaded" training schedule because if they were carrying anything other than the effects of a "loaded" training regime ahead of the finals you would suggest they would be being rested ahead of the real season starting.
September will answer the queries, because, unlike some teams who are currently playing their Grand Finals against the 2009 Minor Premier (witness Essendon - they can not back up their "big" effort for the season - they "won" their premiership for 2009 last week) we will be playing in September so we will have an answer.

He is top 5 favourite for the brownlow and now he is best 10 midfielders in the comp!!
