Agree entirely. He's rushed a few lately and it may be a new tactic, but I don't think it's working for him. It wasn't a hard shot (relatively) and he missed by a fair way. It wasn't one of his shockers, but for a kick he seemed to hit pretty well, it was well off target.

There were dozens of skill errors made in that game.... and not all of them were made under such fatigue and immense pressure.

For most at the ground the only pressure is to get to the loo, buy a beer and a pie and get back to their seat before the second quarter starts.

This was a perfect example of how his kicking problem for goal can really hurt us. I wouldn't have minded so much if he was a reliable kick for goal but under the situation nerves got the better of him.

But even if he was dead in front it still would have been a 50/50 which really isn't good enough.

I don't know how much work he is doing on his kicking but he needs to just spend a real lot of time becoming a good kick for goal.

It's great to admire his work ethic around the ground and his super courage and marking ability but without finishing with goals it all doesn't really matter.

Remember Stewart Leowe was a much worse kick than Roo at first and became a very reliable kick at goal.

Yep, seem to be blaming 1 player for a poor performance, look at the whole game, not 1 kick in isolation. Besides it our FIrST loss

Of course Roo did not lose the game. BUT he had an opportunity to win it. He did not take it. We should expect a captain to be able to kick that goal.

I am more concerned however about the midfield. Cats, Pies are beginning to look dangerous.

True, but I remember Peter Hudson, who corrected the fault, saying that his kicking technique was basically sound, rather, it was his run up that was the problem. Thus, the marking on the ground. Once he was on line and did not feel that he had to hook the ball to get it back on line at the last moment, he was OK. In fact, most players miss because they kick in the wrong direction. Even many muffed kicks go straight - straight through the points if aimed there. Leigh Montagna is a classic example of this.

However, I think Nick's problem is more related to body proportions and so much harder to fix.

Just like to make a correction to this line. It should read:

Some of you should take a long hard look at yourself. Our team came back from a 43 point deficit at the beginning of the 4th quarter. That is quite an amazing feat. We did not almost win it because of Essendon's injuries, we came back because our intensity lifted by 10-20% on the other 3 quarters. The players were flat and out of sync and to their credit, they rallied and we almost stole the game from Essendon. Essendon will be lucky to last the first week in the finals.

Underestimate our team and our captain at your own peril!! We should be thanking our lucky stars that we don't have a snivelling and whining captain like Collingwood do. Maxwell's performance in the media on Sunday morning was pitiful at best. I would be disgusted if Nick came out with comments like that.
