Too many passengers for three quarters. I'm sure the B team would've contested better. On the up side, we nearly won playing 30 minutes, albeit with the bombers a few players short.
Gehrig emerged from scans yesterday saying he was "as sweet as a bun"

you may be right, but the ins looked like they needed that run.

Sluggish start? WE were up at 1/4 time.

Essendon were virtually reduced to 17 players early in the last quarter...
Had more to do with their players being completely spent and losing all run then us playing much better.

The Bombers were excellent in the first three quarters. They knew Carlton won. It was their GF and they are quick.
We were just a little off and two of our best tacklers in Clint Jones and McQualter weren't there.
....and we still nearly won the game.
If we can find the balance we will be ok.

CJ is our quickest player. The bummers beat us for speed all over the ground.

Stevens speed would have helped.
The B-teams desperation would have been higher to try to keep their spots. The A-team clearly needed the run.
