Centre bounces today?

Post: # 797229Post silvertop »

Seemed to me the thing that kept stopping us getting back in to the match earlier than the last was us getting smashed in the centre clearances. It was painful watching it from the stands. Can anyone who was watching on TV explain what happened, if Essendon came with a plan there? Seemed like the ball would always spill Essendon's way.

Paddy Ryder.

We failed to put a tag on Jobe Watson and we paid the price. Watson was responsible for setting up about half their goals from midway throught the first quarter to early in the last. Take him out of the picture and the games and result would have been very different

Ryder in tandem with Watson destroyed us today. A major reason why we lost.

Lack of height on a lot of the bounces suits Ryder's ruck style too, doesn't give the big boys a chance to get under it and block him from getting near it.

The lack of a tagger really hurt too.

Agreed with Jones out Ross Lyon could have tagged Watson with Dempster.
Instead decided to let Dal Santo go head to head with Watson and Watson severely exposed Dal Santo's defensive awareness.

commentators actually made comment before the game that the ump's wont be able to bounce the ball that high, due to the centre circle (about 3 metres diametre) was replaced before the game with a fresh and really soft patch of grass

I don't think there was any tagging at all by the Saints - and some of our "fringe" players were occasionally in the centre - especially in the first half.

This is a team game and there is no room for individuals who think they are above walking through the fire.
