Please don't be condescending towards my son...

Yes, he has special needs, but I does know the difference between the trophy he has mentioned and the premiership FFS

plugger66 has had a worse night than usual fid.

It started when, well it probably started 60 or so years ago, but tonight started when someone spoiled the score of the Cats/Blues game he was watching....so he sooked...

And from there he just degenerated on his usual efforts!!!

It used to be a really nice club trophy from memory (a combination of results from the seniors, magoos and U19s, weighted towards the former).

It does raise the question - why don't we value finishing top of the table in the same way that some others (esp. soccer) do?

Didn't know they still had the Dr.McLelland trophy. I thought it went the way of standing in the outer and the VFA. What's it based on? If it's just for finishing top it's a bit lame.
i.e "How exciting, we won the Dr.McLelland trophy"

Who was Dr. McLelland anyway?

Well, he may have some special needs but he knows more than I do, StFid. I had no idea there was such a cup.
After looking it up I now know that it used to be awarded over three levels (seniors, reserves, reserves/thirds), but is now awarded to the minor premiers.
So it does indeed look like its ours.
Well done and thanks for enlightening me StFid Jnr.

We All know what the ultimate trophy is we are seeking , but nice to gather

as many honours as possible along the way.

I am especially hoping we are the first team to go through a season

undefeated.

That will certainly make this team remembered for all time.

Sorry p66, I didn’t realise that I was being so obtuse with my post. I thought someone who is as perspicacious and sagacious (do you like my use of words ending with acious?) as you would understand what I was saying. Someone who has made 9,010 posts of such pithy (although others less admiring of your work may say sanctimonious, sarcastic, smug, annoying) content - you would think would have a modicum of insight into what I was saying.

On the other hand, try this one on for size…..plugger66 - posts: 9010……what’s that saying about ‘empty vessels’…???

Collingwood won the trophy in 1965....

Back then it was reserves and under 19s as well...

Is there any financial benefit to finishing first? Will the club get handed a cheque of any kind?

Did not realise there was a trophy for finishing first, thanks for the heads up St Fid Jnr.
