Foxtel commentary last night
After the biased commentary of the West Coast v St Kilda by BT, Jako and Gerard Healey, I sent am email to complaint to Foxtel, teling them I found it so bad I turned off the sound and listened to SEN.
I got a blah blah response, but I thought last night was even worse than the Weagles game.
Could they have gloated anymore when it looked the Swans were going to win?
I thought about sending another email but I'll be seen as a serial complainer, so is there anyone else out there prepared to send an email requesting Foxtel provide a commentary team that is fair, and objective and able to not show bias towards one team at the expense of the other team and more importantly the other team's viewers, who by the way are paying subscription fees for this crap?
Over to you my fellow Sainters

A few points I think we all need to understand:
* St Kilda is undefeated on top of the ladder.
* Because of this, St Kilda starts every game as favourite.
* Everyone loves an underdog.
* Nobody likes seeing one team dominate. It's like a 100 point belting, it gets tedious.
* ALL neutrals want to see the dominant team get knocked off.
* St Kilda winning is not a big story. In fact, it's become boring now.
* St Kilda losing is a MASSIVE story.
* The media love massive stories.
Don't take it so personally. This happens in every sport in the world.

Can't win here, people say let's show some arrogance, great we start doing that at 18-0, of course people are going to want to see you get knocked off.
The roar when the swans hit the front last night was incredible.
It's not a bad thing!! I am sure that many people have us as their second team and come grand final team will be barracking like hell for us.
A swans supporter turned to me last night and said she really hopes Schneider gets his second medal and she felt sorry for the great 35.

I think the answer would be if they had special comments from people from both clubs that would keep the b's honest.
My main bitch from last night was that they were equally excited at the prospect of rooey being out of the game with injury as they were when sydney kicked a goal
I understand the whole underdog thing, but they really do need to do the job they are being paid to do. Call the footy, it is exciting enough.
Once again I turned it off because of their commentary, but i am a very nervous supporter so perhaps I need to toughen up, but last night made me question why i pay foxtel to watch live games when I actually have to turn down the volume every time. Might as well go to the pub......now there's an idea

Didnt say happy said they showed the same excitement. bit different. I dont think they hate us I think they dont do their job in the right manner. Never said they hated us. what i said was they dont need to try and make a game exciting that already is.matrixcutter wrote:unreal?
they were as happy as roo being out of the game as much as sydney kicking a goal??????
seriously does every commentator in the entire universe hate us according to posters here????
i cant see it
In the end i made my choice and turned off nothing i do or say will make them change but they do need to be a bit more professional

Want to see how ridiculously biased the coverage was?
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/ ... 42,00.html
Play the Fox highlights reel.
It focuses entirely on the Swan's shots at goal - hits AND misses.
The only focus on the Saints is Joey's winning point.
It beggars belief. Not even Geelong would get this treatment.

Both the Herald-Sun & The Age reports were written by Sydney based reporters catering to a Sydney market that doesn't care about our game !!InkerSaint wrote:Want to see how ridiculously biased the coverage was?

Bodes well for Western Sydney, doesn't it? NOT!Eastern wrote:Both the Herald-Sun & The Age reports were written by Sydney based reporters catering to a Sydney market that doesn't care about our game !!

No, that's not right at all. It's about professional COMMENTRY !! There is precious few commentators in this country. They do not let the game be the story. Like the TV directors, they think they should manufacture a game. This is why we seem to see so much else, other than the play. They should commentate, not barrack. IMO, the best at this is the US commentators. It will not change, because they media is wrapped up in selling the game. They are making money, ergo, they will and have influenced how the AFL is conducted, both on game day and through the fixture.
This forum just proves NO ONE knows anything about football......

Spot on. There are next to no commentators who are trained, professional broadcasters. Instead, commentary teams are composed of ex-players. It is a closed shop and based on jobs-for-the=boys. As football becomes increasingly professional, commentating has become increasingly amateurish.Moose wrote:No, that's not right at all. It's about professional COMMENTRY !!

Pretty sure the game is won on final points scored not goals and behinds.aussierules0k wrote:Well said!SteveStevens66 wrote:As football becomes increasingly professional, commentating has become increasingly amateurish.
Lou Richards used to say, forget about you and your ego... and keep telling them the scores... that's the people wanna hear.
Notice on Fuxtel they only show the points accumulated.
The story of the score is in the Goals and Behinds.
The England Lions commentators should take a leaf out of his book... in the tour match there were about 10 overs pass without the scorecard appearing. The total score was shown, but viewers had no idea how the batsmen (or the batsmen before them) were going. Pretty ordinary, but fortunately improved for the Tests as you would expect.plugger66 wrote:Pretty sure the game is won on final points scored not goals and behinds.aussierules0k wrote:Well said!SteveStevens66 wrote:As football becomes increasingly professional, commentating has become increasingly amateurish.

However over the years, they still tend to focus on our "problems" and hardly ever our good plays - or players.
Most in the media are ex-players. Coaches would've been drumming it into them for their entire careers - "The Saints are crap, now go out and beat them". Therefore these "commentators" like... Russell, Ox, Dunnystool and the others expect us to be losers and have no respect for us. They are stunned if we win. What's happening now just does not compute.
Trouble is, 1 flag wont change their minds... 3 flags might but only begrudgingly.
Blighty was great on After the Game, he really is neutral.
